Default CEL code 72 help!!

so i was driving to work on the freeway and all of the sudden my car just starts to bog out. i was losing speed and couldnt gain it back. anytime i pressed more than just barely on the gas peddle it would bog again. only way i can describe the sound is it sounds like an STi. that rumble of a boxer motor. it will only act this way once the car has been running for a while and its fully warmed up. but not right when it warms up. its got brand new plugs and wires so that issue can be ruled out. also when idling it sounds as if the TPS is outta wack, the random dip and rise of the idle. also i can get the car to accelerate faster if i roll into the throttle. but i have to do it really slowly

am i just over looking something stupid here?

knowing my luck its something real bad, the cel light never comes on, even if you unplug stuff. the OBD port doesnt work either for some reason.

If the CEL and OBD port don't work, then how could you know that code 72 is thrown?

Has someone removed the CEL bulb?

Is 7.5A hood fuse 43 blown for the data link port?

Oh sorry. It's a 1997 civic ex with a d16y8. I jumped the plug under the kick panel on the passenger side. And got the code by countin the flashes of the light.

Now after taking the distibutor apart to replace the rotor it won't start.

Well checked for spark. There's none! So I'm guessing that it's the could like you said.

so i got the coil replaced, new plugs wires and a fuel filter and i still get the same thing. from idle to ~3k it will be horrible to drive, like it wont accellerate. just studders. but if you back off the throttle and ease into it you can start to pick up speed. but very very slowly. i cant have the car acting this way when i go to work. going 45 on the freeway just wont fly.

and again it threw code 72

If you reset the ECU to clear code 72, does the code return after driving the car?

if i reset it the code will go away until the car starts to act up. after about 5 seconds of the car bogging out it will turn back on

not sure if this makes a difference or not but when cold the car will run almost normal. still hesitates but not as much. then as it warms up it worsens. and as usual it throws code 72.

i had that problem too but my spark plugs where wet and leaking gas from the exhaust mani and i took it to my mechanic and he replace m injector with some used one and problem fix it was on my ls integra reason was that my injector was open at all times and throwing gas like if it was a hose not spraying like it normally does

When the problem occurs, check whether spark plug #2 lacks spark or whether fuel injector #2 stops clicking or spraying fuel. If spark and fuel injection are fine, compression test the cylinders.

I'll check both in the morning. I was reading around and was wondering of a bad o2 sensor can cause these issues.

Actually the car wouldn't run the way it does if one whole cylinder wasn't working. So I doubt it's an issue with the spark or the fuel injector. Bu I'll check anyways.

The O2 sensor would not cause one cylinder to misfire.

That's not true. I switched my #2 and #4 plug wires on the distributor cap and my 97 Civic started but ran like crap.

the wierd thing is that it will only do it when the gas peddle is pressed fast. if i ease into the throttle, and i mean really ease into it i can get it to go to redline, but if i smash the gas it will just bog out. but i still have some power just not as much as whats needed

well tested all the injectors and they seem to be firing fine. pulled the oil cap off and it reeked of gas so im guessing bad rings

tested compression heres the numbers
#1 125
#2 120
#3 105
#4 100

not so sure about hondas so can someone give me some insight on these numbers?
