i have run a search on these boards and i couldn't find what i needed. i recently went to one of the local exhaust places here, and i asked the guy about cutting off my cat (it's ok in alabama...). he told me that being that my car is a 98 civic, it wouldn't run right unless i get an O2 sensor bypass, or something along the lines of that. i've never heard of that b4, but can someone tell me if it will effect how the car runs at all, or if i need the bypass, and if so, where to get one.

Well, I assume what he means by that is that the ECU will see the catalyst as being inefficient and will throw a CEL...I would save yourself the trouble and leave it in there, not much power to gain just from that and a lot less money and headache involved.

Their no point of cutting your cat. What have you done to your engine? If you was boosting you probably want to run straight pipe or fully built N/A. Just leave your cat on.

it's legal in alablama to run with no cat? without historic plates? i highly doubt that. in any case i agree with everyone else...leave it the hell on. if you absolutely must get the most from your motor, i have a high flow cat i could sell you cheap.

Thx guys, guess I'll go with the high flow cat if there isn't that much power to b gained... and no cat is legal, there's no emissions test in AL.

It doesn't matter if your state does not test emissions. Catalytic converters are universally required by federal law.
