how much difference will a hiflow cat make in terms of horsepower on a typical B16 with header/intake/exhaust? I'm guessing 1-2 hp at most ?

how much more hp will it gain if it was a test pipe on the same set up?

Usually they make about the same horsepower difference. I think that my friend (B16 w/ i/h/e) made more power from the high-flow cat than his test pipe. Probably from the loss of backpressure I am guessing.

I would also like to find out how much power i will gain from a test pipe.

Right now im running b18C1 w/ vtec control, Intake, 4-1 header, 2 1/4 piping w/ stock muffler.

You will never loose power by adding a test pipe. You might loose some torque under 3k but after that, you'll gain about 4-5 hp. Why do most people go open header at the track? Because when you take off, you usually rev high enough to where you don't want any back pressure. Backpressure is good for mostly low rpm, where your engine doesn't make much power. This is more true of the torque-less b16 than the b18.

Dude that high flow will add a good 5-8 hp. On my stock d15b7 i threw an AEM V2 (really works in high rpm) and an Apex-i catback system... once i added the high-flow cat...i REALLY noticed a difference in torque(less) and hp(more). lets just say i went from chirping 2nd to really squealing 2nd. (n yes in high rpm more hp means more spin..not ONLY torque)

since you live in CA i would go with the cat so you dont fail emissions and usually in most cases, cats make your exhaust sound less raspy than if you have a test pipe. either route you go you will be satisfied with I guess.....but its not like your adding a turbo or anything, gains are very minimal.

and i assume this was never even dynoed, am i right? and what is the point of wheels spinning? you know that means you are getting less traction meaning you are moving slower right?

I guess he thinks more power = more tire spin which = accelerating faster? *shrugs shoulders*

Both will yield power, but the test pipe might have a bit of an increase. The thing you come in conflict with is emissions and your exhaust being REALLY loud.

...NO, the fact that they spin easier means clearly u have more power...i said nothing about accelerating fast by spinning wheels ********. i know my damn physics. Now that you have more power, u can maybe possibly get LSD and put it to work or learn to take off quicker without burning out to ACCELERATE better..again, "NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER"
