Default car overheating. temp drops when heat is on.

i have a 93 ex coupe. bone stock z6 motor.

the fan doesn't come on.
both rad hoses feel hot/warm.
when i put the defroster on full blast hot, it drops down.

i've heard coolant temp relay.. any other ideas?
searched around too, but just looking for something more specific.

how long are you waiting to see if the fan is turning on? sounds like a bad thermo.

What I was thinking as well.

Either that, the coolant temp sensor isnt telling the fans to kick in, or the relay isnt allowing the fans to come on.

Pull the resistance specs on the relay and the temp sensor, and make sure they are within spec. If not, there is your awnser. If they are, Im pretty sure it is your thermostat.

i had the car driving around today for a good 45 minutes, so im sure it would have kicked on by then.
