car not warming up in cold weathers, bad for engine?
I rerouted my coolant lines to not go through TB and intake manifold and I'm running a hondata gasket on my intake manifold. On cold weathers, i can drive for hrs and the engine will never warm up completely (temp gauge stays on Cold). Is that bad for the engine running for so long and not fully warming up? thanks

Are you sure it's not warming up and not just not showing the temp on the guage?
I don't care how cold it is, your typical engine operates circum 190 deg. F, takes a lot for that to be "cold."

open loop. the engine if it is not receiving a correct temp from the sender or if it is infact overcooling, will constantly be trying to warm up the car. engines do have an optimal operating temp for both power and fuel economy.

Same here, but it gets a little above the cold mark. But whenever I turn on the heater, the temp will drop a lot, being it cold outside or a lil chilly it still drops a lot.

check and replace your thermostat. the same thing was happening on my sis' 94 civic, the thermo was stuck open and she was getting horrible gas milage. Replaced and all was good engine warms up properly and good gas milage and heat, especially important in the winter!

either stuck open , or you have a summer thermostat in it , which will do the same thing. they stay open too much(more so than winter thermos) , for the engine to fully heat up. my 01 civic is same way , ill start it in the morning , leave it for 10 minutes , come sout and the temp guage hasnt moved , its just blowing lukewarm air , and as soon as i start driving , it heats up. when its really cold , it will cool off to below the C almost from sitting idling.

Do the thermostat just get stuck like that on its own or what happens? Do I just need a new one? How do you check to see if its stuck?

the only way to check it is to physically remove it might as well pop in a new one in that case and ber certain. yes they stick open better stuck open then closed..otherwise you'd overheat.
as far as the oe op temp for civics i believe its 180F, if you are going to buy one at your local parts place, and its a stant, make sure is the premium/super stant, the regular ones dont cut it. Otherwise go to honda and pay the $16 for a new one with gasket.
your engine isnt moving much coolant at idle thats why they tell you to drive the car to warm it up. combustion produces heat and theres a lot more combustion at 2500rpm then below 1000rpm. I'm not aware of winter/summer thermostats, only different temps like 170/180/190 fo hondas. You dont want to overcool your car though by going with a cooler temp thermostat.

Re: (chrisw85)
I've replaced my thermostat and my car still runs cool.
It will get to operating temp at idle but when the thermostat opens, the temp will go back down to cold.
