Default Car is going into limp mode. 97 hatch with GSR

Hey people. We just got a GSR hatch and the car runs good. Only problem with the car is it goes into limp mode around 4100 RPM's, if the TPS is unplugged the car runs fine, just no VTEC. Could you all please help me with this?

We have changed the following with same results.
Distributor
ECU
and the TPS is "new" on it from what the guy told us.

If it's going into limp mode, it's throwing a code. Pull the code, and post it.

does your speedometer work bc mine doesnt work right now and its throwing a code 17 which is speed sensor which means no vtec and in every gear its reading that im still at 0mph so i cant go above 5000rpm which is my 2 step.

dunkingmofo - no speedo works just fine

It actually isn't throwing a CEL it with go to about 4100, start back firing, won't go past that, unhook TPS and it throws the code for it, but runs fine and all just no VTEC.

Well, my friend told me that the speedometer wasn't working, so I knew that problem right off. I could have sworn he told me it worked.. So we changed the speed sensor and put my Stock GSR Ecu in his car, and the car took off. It runs good, so now we know that the ECU was the problem.

My question now would be, do you all think that the ECU just has a bad tune on it, or do you all believe that it is just a bad ECU ? We popped it open and there weren't any burn spots or anything inside of it, but it is also a P05 ECU. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Why did you change the ECU? You should have tried to just change the sensor and see how it ran with the original ECU and if it still ran bad and then swapped ECU's then you kno for sure its the ECU. The reason it was goin to 4100rpms was because thats what your tune "two step" was set at mine did the exact same thing and i changed my sensor a few hours ago and my car runs fine again.

The car wasn't showing a CEL until we changed the ECU and when I pulled my ECU out and put his back in the car was doing it again. We went through the process of that because I also have a gsr hatch and we were checking the problems, car runs great with stock ECU now. Just trying the figure out the e u problem now. We aren't just buying parts and doing it blind, I know for sure it is the ECU

Gotcha..has to be the ECU no doubt about it..idk if you lookin to go for another ECU but best way to go is socketed that way you can interchange basemaps or whatever kind of chip you want to put in there, but if your content with stock ECU theres nothing wrong with that.

nah, his is socketed. We finished looking over it and figured out that whoever did the basemap on it didn't do a good job and messed up with the launch control or whatever on it so it was trying to cross over on something else from what the tuner told us. Got it fixed and everything, car is really quick.

He has a GSR with Type R cams, Skunk 2 IM, buddy club header, and the little ECU work from today, also some other stuff. Makes me want to hurry and start buying parts for my GSR and get it going the way I want.. Just sucks with no money at the moment lol.. Thank you for the help though.
