car feels like its bogging at 5k rpms
I swapped a b18c1 into my civic about a month ago. Its basically stock but i have noticed that beween the vtec engagement to about 6k rpms it really seems like it struggles a little. Almost like it might be getting too much fuel. Before vtec and after 6k it feels fine and pulls hard its just that right after vtec engages you cant tell much of a difference except for the noise. I do have a vafc and i plan to get it hooked up soon and i will prolly take it to the dyno. Do you guys think that this problem may be fixed by having the motor tuned up? or could this be another problem?

Does it bog under the same load at 5gs or not? Not sure, but you're probably just running a little rich. However, I swapped the same motor in my civic and unlike the B16, the GSR doesnt really have much of a v-tec spike thats really noticeable, but once your secondaries open, youre gone. Get it tuned and lean it out and im sure you will be much more pleased.

Re: car feels like its bogging at 5k rpms (durtydavey)
do you have an exhaust on it? Any restrictions. There was a thread awhile ago about this guy coming back from the dyno and trying to drive around with a gay silencer on his exhaust. His car would like missfire when vtec engaged, and started pulling after 6 grand. Check your cat, or just try to run open header.
If that's no the case, do a tune up. See if any plugs are fouled out. Change your fuel filter. Any other mods on the car?

Stock Computer? Which one are you using? What mods? You could have a bad TPS or FPR if your running a stock computer (if its a P72 or P30).

if it's not a gsr computer it's defently your problem, lol. You can't getho rig it. VAFC should be set to default if it is a stock engine. Plus only gsr and h22 ecu will make secondaries open, unless it's an uberdata or hondata. If it's not a gsr ecu sell your VAFC and get one.

Even if the secondaries don't open, it wouldn't cause it to bog. I've ran my B18C1 with secondaries always closed, and always open. Sounds like a fuel problem.

And you can use any VTEC computer it doesn't have to be a P72. Any old P28 (easy to find) can be socketed, and reprogrammed very easily to run a DOHC VTEC engine.</TD></TR></TABLE>
yeah it can be, that's why I said if not a uberdata or hondata or etc. But I think it is a restriction problem. Either fuel, intake flow, or exhaust flow. Another option is that somebody fucked with a VAFC trying to "tune" the car.

I don't think the VTAK controller is hooked up yet

oh nevermind then. yeah people with stock exhaust (especially with a cat on) try open header. my friends b16 wasn't running to good until cat got hollowed out.
then fuel problems.
Then It could have something to do with oil pressure problems too but that's the last thing to check.

If the oil pressure was low VTEC wouldn't work

Re: car feels like its bogging at 5k rpms (ABK)
heres my setup
-96 usdm b18c1
-stock gsr ecu p72
-crappy intake
-apexi cat back exhaust
-cheap obx header
and i have a vafc but it isnt hooked up
Its been like this since i got the motor but its not to noticeable, i do notice a more gradual pull in my brothers gsr integra but mine doesnt feel too powerful until 6k. It also smokes kinda heavily when you floor it (not too bad but you can see it a little in the mirror). I will check the spark plugs and fuel filter today, are d series spark plugs the same for the b18? cause i just put new spark plugs in it before i swapped them.

Re: car feels like its bogging at 5k rpms (carjacker006)
smoking now? How much? Im curious now. If you know someone who can mock up a leakdown and compression test cheap, Id do it just to be sure your looking in the right place and if not then just to check. Mine used to be basically the same you describe it, and I tested and found out the major problem(s).

Re: car feels like its bogging at 5k rpms (durtydavey)
I have this same exact problem as well , and i cant figure it out . Car runs very rich here is my setup
JDM B16A
GSR ecu
aem sri
skunk2 cat-back
dc sports header
no-name hi-flow cat
it runs fine up to about 5000 then vtec kicks in and the pull is just nowhere near as hard as it used to be ....... talked to a honda mechanic and he suggested the PCM . Any opinions on this ?
