Can't shift out of park on AT
I just recently swapped the D16B in my friend's 92 civic with an imported ZC. Everything works well (especially the engine, wow that thing picks up fast), except the shifter won't unlock, even though the brakes work. We can manually unlock it by popping the key into the release slot and then shift it to Neutral to start the car, but there's something obviously wrong that is preventing the shifter from unlocking normally.
I already checked the shifter linkage at the transmission, but everything looks the way it did when I took it off for the engine swap. I checked the brake system fully and found no faults. The ECU is reporting no errors (oddly, even though it's a completely different engine and the EGR isn't hooked up).
What's preventing the brakes from disengaging the shifter lock?

Re: (b204dr)
did this happen the second that you swapped the car?
also check the shift interlock system, the brake pedal/swich shift lock cable and under the shiter assembley (center console) to see if you can visually figure out what is wrong

Re: (rainforest)
Yeah, this happened the moment I got the new engine on the old transmission. I believe I got everything hooked up properly and I never touched anything outside the engine compartment and wheel wells, so it's puzzling me.
Could my unbolting the brake assemblies to get the CV halfshafts off cause this? I personally doubt it, but I've seen weirder things happen before.
I suppose the next step is to re-check everything in the brake system.
