Can't get into REVERSE HELPP!!
Long story short.. bought a y8 swap from a dude (probably not the best dude) to put it into my 99 ek hatchback. Swapped it into my ek and then can't get into reverse gear but can to all the others. Seems like whenever I try to shift into reverse it always ends up being around 5th gear I believe. Anybody know whatsup? BUMP for info.
OH AND ALSO: For some reason whenever I bump the shifter to the left (1-2 gear) the bump is there but when I shift it to the right (5-R gear) the bump back action is not there for some reason. It just slacks and lays there on the (5-R gear) side.

worn shifter bushings???
disconnect the shift linkage from the tranny and try to put it in gear at the tranny, stick a screddriver or something thru the bitch pin hole and select reverse and see if it goes in
if it does you may have worn shifter bushigns or something else wrong with the shift linkage

Re: Can't get into REVERSE HELPP!!
Sounds like there is a detent failure inside the trans causing the second issue your talking about (shifter not coming back to neutral position from 5th/reverse shift fork), and could have to do with it not getting into reverse.
Have u tried with the car running, sitting still, put it in 4th, then over to reverse and see if it goes in?
Also, have you tried letting the clutch pedal up really slowly while trying to push into reverse?
Can you put it in reverse with the engine off? Or does it just not go into reverse period?
Like I said at the beginning, it sounds like you have a detent failure in the transmission that's not "locking" your 5th/reverse shift fork in place and thus not allowing you to engage reverse.
Also the detent for the neutral position of the shift lever is a different one and the shaft is spring loaded at either end. Possibly a spring is broken or missing.
Do you know, or can you tell, if the trans was ever apart?

I have tried putting it in 4th then into R, and even 5th to R, while the car was running and no go. I've tried putting it into R straight up and slowly try to reverse out.. and it always seems like its in 4th or 5th still.. it wont go into reverse period. On or not.
I've never ran into a problem like this before.. I think it may be a detent internal problem like your talking about. Could you show me pictures of what your talking about?
And as for the tranny being apart.. I'm not sure. I didn't really pay much attention to it and have looked at it that hard yet (because it looks very clean the engine & tranny is a 00' not EVEN a drop of oil stain on it; like brand new). But I'll go take a look at it from under the chassis and everywhere to see if there are ever any clues of the tranny coming apart.
