OK first thing is to take a rubber mallet and hit the top of the tie rod end. Hit it a few times, then try to install the castle nut. If that dosen't work, take a pair of vice grips and lock onto the top of the tie rod end and the bottom of the hub and then try to install the nut. Hope this helps. Oh yea like what was said before, use a impact gun. This method should work for tie rod ends as well as for ball joints.

If the ball joint is that worn you really should replace it. There are two SAFE tricks you can use to get this back on. First thing you want to do is get a die and clean up the threads on the ball joint stud, and a tap to clean up the threads on the nut or get a new nut. If this does not help then try these tricks. Insert the ball joint in its hole and use a rubber mallet to try to get it to seat enough for you to get the nut on. If that fails you can use a moto-tool with a citting disc, and cut a slot into the tip of the ball joint stud. Then get the nut started, and use a screw driver to hold the ball joint stud from spinning while you wrench the nut home.
