Can you make a 12 sec. motor with honda only parts???
I am looking at building a LS/Vtec and wanted to know if i would be able to hit low 13s on street tires, or high 12's on slicks using honda only parts?? I have heard people claim that they have hit low 12's on Honda only parts. Is that honda pistons, headers, cams, valvetrain, etc??? im kinda sceptikal of that but if it can be done thats the way i want to go, because it seems more relaible.
I wouldnt mind considering going crvtec if i have to hit the 12's using aftermarket parts. but i dont want to BORE or SLEEVE the block if dont have too, just drop in pistons and rods and balance and bluprint.
This will be in a EJ1 , and i plan to only strip the car from the front seats and back...and take out the a/c and p/s ....uuummmm thats bout all
so let me know what u guys think.

Sure, it's called a bone stock B18C5.
I'm sitting at 13.3 at 1100ft. above sea level with a bone-stock internals B18C5 with only an intake, exhaust, ATS 4.929FD (not the best FD for drag - for auto-X road race) and ECU as mods.
Next time I go to a strip it will be closer to sea level and I'll have some slightly taller slicks so I don't cross the finish line at 9400rpms again.
But this is in a 2040lb. car with 175whp. Your car will be substantially heavier.
Oh I just saw that you have an EJ1...you'll need around 190whp to get down to 12's probably. 190 *might* be possible with a B20/VTEC and CTR intake cam, etc. but it won't be all Honda parts then.

how hard would that be to install in a 99 DX coupe? being that i would be going from a non VTEC engine to a VTEC engine

you guyz think i can hit low 13's all day in my 92 cx hatch with b18c1 on drag radials ?i heard you need close to 200hp at the wheels. i currently have an exhaust,intake and chipped p28 from kenji. i will have around a $2000 budget for all motor or i might just sell my C1 and do h22a. i dont wanna resleeve anything or do ls/vtec, i juss want to keep it simple. i was thinking about :
skunk 2 stage 1 cams - 700 or
ITR cams - 500
skunk IM - 300
dc header (used) 200
ITR valvetrain (used) 200
skunk 2 cam gears - 200
dyno tunning - 300
so with 2k what would you guyz do?

Hmmm it seems that im going to have to go crvtec and just do head work and upgrade the pistons and rods, which would mean its not all honda, but mostly!! i wanted to go all honda because i figured it would be cheaper, but after looking around, not always the case..... and i only want to strip out my trunk and back seat, maybe my carpet front and back, but i think thats about all, not sure how much i can get it down too.............but thanks for the input

Well, we hit 12.7 with a STOCK top and bottom GSR motor with GSR tranny and Quaif LSD. Also using JDM headers, with about 3 feet of straight pipe after the flange. When i say stock I mean stock cams, pistons, head gasket, intake manifolds, etc. It had cam gears and an MSD. Throttle body was bored slightly too.
How we do it? All in the weight. Car weighed roughly 1750 or so when that pass was made.

With 200whp you would probably be dipping 12's on drag radials.

so with that setup i should hit low 13's all day mayb even high 12's with gsr mtr, itr tranny, cams, ctr pistons. the itr tranny with LSD is it really that much better then a gsr? i know its good but is it worth the money.

LSD owns u! Nice to see everyone helping out on this post. B18C5 would be a better choice than LS-Vtec......reliable!

I built a LS/VTEC for a fellow board member that went 12.80s in a '93 Civic coupe a couple of years back.
Only USDM Honda parts were used.
12's on Honda parts with a good driver is not that hard to do.

what kind of budget did you set out with to achieve 12.80's in the coupe wiht a LS/VTEC kenji? and is it still up and going reliably?
