vtec won't kick in so you won't have a problem, now if you tried to use a vtec controller to enable the vtec than that is where your car starts to run like ****.

Yes because the idle air control valves are different. You'll also have to wire up VTEC and knock. Are you sure that's a y8 head because it's not a y8 manifold, more like a z6.

-use your harness (or find a 96-98 ex harness for plug and play)
-add vtec, knock, and IACV 3-2 wire conversion
-if you use the ex harness you'll have to manually wire in the 2nd 02
-put your cars intake air temp sensor into your intake arm or convert to the round style on your z6 manifold

Re: How to get the most out of an automatic vtec?
the problem you'll run into is that you can't run the y8 vtec ecu with your setup. the tcu is integrated in the ecu, and the y7/y8 transmissions are not the same. unless you convert to 5 speed or swap transmissions, no vtec for you.

Re: How to get the most out of an automatic vtec?
The TCU is integrated into the ECU. The TCU controls the transmission. It expects the gear ratios for the transmission that came originally equipped with that ECU. An EX ECU cannot properly control a DX/LX transmission, and will throw a CEL because of it. A DX/LX ECU cannot properly control an EX transmission, and will throw a CEL because of it. For autotragic Civics, you HAVE to match the ECU to the transmission.

Z6 auto and manual use the same manifold. Y8 has two manifolds, one for auto and one for manual. If it was me, I'd get a Y8 auto manifold. I actually have a 99 Y8 auto manifold on my 99 Y7 civic and have had no issues since I put it on 1.5 yrs ago, even passed CA emissions testing with it

If you clean it off, there should be a casing code on it somewhere. If memory serves, it'll either be an A000 or B000, or something similar. Assuming your CEL isn't on right now, and you're running a DX/LX ECU, you have a DX/LX transmission.
