can a distributor issue prevent starter from cranking?
ok so i have a fresh lsvtec installed in my 98 coupe. Today i was driving aprox. 10 miles from my house today.all the sudden i was on a side road doing about 25 mph and i hear a pop from the exhaust (open header) then the throttle response was no more and i wanna say the tach went a little crazy im not too sure though. Shifted down a gear to see if i could pop the clutch to get it fired back up and nothing? i turn the car off get out and check under the hood the timing belt is in tact and gears seemed to be aligned still. Try to start the car by key and nothing. i replaced the main relay about a year ago. When i tried to start the car the fan for the heat stopped when i turned the key then when i let off the key it came back on? not sure if it means anything just never noticed if it went out when the car starts normally?

Ok I didn't think so either. The ground is secure. Is there possibly a fuse that controls it possibly? Hope its not the main relay again. I do hear the pump prime though. Thanks for the input

When the key is turned to ON(II), do all of the dash warning lights turn on and does the CEL turn on and then off after 2 seconds?
With the transmission in neutral, are you able to turn the engine from the crank pulley bolt?
Do both the large and small wires at the starter have battery voltage? The small wire should have voltage when the key is in ON(III) and the clutch pedal is pushed down. The large wire should have voltage at all times.

This happened to me a few weeks ago after I put a new distributor in my 96. Make sure that the harness for the distributor is plugged in all the way (had a severe d'oh moment).
