A/C Question?

A/C Question?
I have a 2000 civic DX. The A/C works, but sometimes it will start blowing warm air for a bit then it will start blowing cold air again. It does not matter if I'm on the freeway or city streets. Is there anything I could do/check before I take it to be looked at.

Re: A/C Question?
It is possible the compressor is cutting in and out causing the warm air. I would check for any kind of frayed wires coming off the compressor. A low freon level would cause the air to constantly be warmer than normal.

Mine sort of had the same symptoms. It would stop working mostly when stuck in traffic. And then sometimes come back when I got going again. I had it checked out and the incompetent place recharged the system thinking that was the problem, which didn't fix it. After bringing it back, they said the compressor is failing to kick on all the time. They said if they banged it with a hammer it would come on. There is a coil pack (have to look at the schematic for sure) on the compressor that is the problem, but the coil alone is starting to get near the price of a compressor.
To be honest, since they messed up the initial diagnosis, I'm not sure if that is accurate or not. I was going to have it checked again this spring. I've noticed the fan doesn't seem to run all the time, and I'm wondering if it overheated to the point where it was damaged. I believe there is a thermal fuse that should trip, but maybe if you do it enough, it just gets damaged. I think a competent tech could figure it out.
