So I just purchased a 98 ex sedan from someone 3 hours away. I asked tons of questions, one of coarse being does the a/c work. He replies yes it does. I go and pick up the car and notice right away that the button looks to be stuck in or ON. I go back and ask, he said sorry idk what is wrong and I didn't think to tell you as you only asked if the a/c worked. So I get back home and find the the button is actually broke off and just set in the hole. So I have no idea how to shut the A/C off. Just wondering if there is something else I can stick back in the hole to turn it off and on or if I need a new climate control for the car.

Pull the 20A hood fuse 56.

Post clear close up pictures of the climate control with the button removed.

Is something also broken inside the climate control where the button inserts? I can't tell from the picture.

That's what I don't know. I've never messed with a climate control before not sure if I get a new button if it will completely fix my issue. What does the button push down on inside? I mean honestly, if I can just use a small flat head screw driver to turn it off and on by depressing something inside of there I will as this is just a beater dd, but I do want to be able to turn it off as well

Definitely figure out if you can turn the A/C on and off with a screwdriver or pick. Also check whether the part that broke off the button is still stuck inside the climate control.

If all fails, pick up a climate control from a junkyard.

That's what I was thinking all the way around. I just wanted some reassurance as to that being my best way to hit it. Thanks for your help. I'll prob just give in and get a new climate control.

Remove the recirculation mode button and try it on the a/c. They are the same. The one you have looks to have a broken part.
