What car & year?

Did you recently do any A/C work or recharge the system with refrigerant?

1) You first need to add about 4 oz of SP-10 oil to the new compressor (if it has no oil in it) and to replace the O-rings on the compressor refrigerant lines.

2) Next replace the receiver/dryer, hook up a manifold gauge set, and then evacuate the system with a vacuum pump. After the pump has pulled a full vacuum, close the valve on the manifold gauge set and watch the vacuum gauge for 24 hours to see whether vacuum is held (no leak) or lost (leak).

3) If there's no leak, then recharge the system with 22 oz of R134a.

Some auto parts chain stores may offer free rentals on vacuum pumps.
