buying a usdm ls b18b
what up guys im buying a new motor in january. i have problem deciding buy a jdm or usdm b18b. how diffiuclt is it getting the usdm b18b to pass smog and be smog legal?. i was offered a usdm b18b for 995 from an actual shop as to where i got another ls offered which was a jdm b18b for 550. im tired of havin to pay some guy a crap load of money to make my car pass smog. i have a 92si civic and i dont want to buy another stock motor when it comes time for inspection. i currently have an ls motor in my car but its burning oil like crazy any advice would be help thanx in advanceto any one who replys.

If you already have a USDM LS engine in a '92 Civic with BAR approval, just pick up a '92-93 B18A or any B18B longblock (JDM or USDM) and transfer all parts over from the old engine to the new one.
JDM engines can pass in CA, but they have to have all USDM emissions and fuel injection equipment from the same or a newer model year of the engine (or CARB-legal alternate parts) to pass the visual inspection IIRC.
