built B17 swap or LS-T
ok, i have read plenty of posts about how to swap motors and such, and im really getting sick of my puny little d16y7(except the 38mpg!), i want a little bit more power, around 150ish, basically something faster, i dont want to turbo the D because it has about 150k on it, yeah, i know thats only like half of its life, but i want something different.
I have a friend that has a B17 with high comp pistons and pretty much built for the track, 13:1 comp i think he said, he wants $1k for the motor and tranny, the only thing that is holding me back from buying it is that it is all in pieces, and needs to be rebuilt, and i kind of would like to have a boosted car. i know i will prob need about another $500 in parts to finish putting it in my car.
I am also on a budget here somewhat, so keep in mind costs here too, and reliability, because its my daily driver too.
on the other hand i wouldn't mind swaping in a LS for about $1k if i could find one locally and then hopefully turbo about a year or so later when i get enough money, i prob wouldn't lsvtec it, just for simplicity and reliability.
I plan on road racing/autoxing it hopefully, and maybe a couple of runs down the 1/4mi all legally on closed tracks.
im sick and tired of being the slowest car in my group(Neon R/T w/2.4 swap,DA,GTI,built turbo Cavi), please help me decide what would be the best swap for my ride!

I would go with the LS then either turbo or go LS V-tech, I have the LS V-tech and love it. I can't complain, I can beat the GST u know the turbo eclipse, or just turbo the LS because that block is very reliable.

Umm yeah. You dont have an LS-Vtech... I would love to see it. Perhaps you meant VTEC? And saying you can beat a GST is nothing special, when I had my B18C in my EJ1 I used to do the same thing... I just never thought it was something to be proud of

Id go with the LS motor, you have a few more options with it, and .1 more displacment to toy around with. Ive said it once and ill say it again, a well-built and tuned LS turbo can be a force to be reckoned with.

yeah, i really was leaning more towards the LS because i dont think im completely ready to rebuild a motor yet, or really have the time for it(50 hrs a week), the gsr would be nice, but just not as fast as the LS boosted,i might see if i can snag the tranny for cheap though, but ill also have to do a cable conversion, and use a diff tranny mount, but ive driven my friends DA and didnt mind it at all, you can almost get a beter feel for the clutch, and it will have a shorter gear ratio too
how much should i expect to pay for the tranny? ive seen complete LS swaps for $800ish around here with about 150k on them, i dont have the money for a new JDM from hmotors or some other place, so a used swap will have to do
let me know what you think, also i remember there being a very detailed swap guide, i thought that i needed new hubs because i still have cx/dx hubs
