Brake Upgrade
I've done some looking around and havent been able to find the answer Im looking for. My car needs new calipers in a bad way and I was thinking about doing some sort of upgrade while Im at it. What Im wondering is, is it possible to just change to a better caliper, say off a si or gsr, without changing to the larger rotor and replacing the knuckle?? Thanks much.

Re: Brake Upgrade (ef-sihatch)
There is no way to change to larger caliper w/o changeing the rotor too (you don't need bigger calipers at that size rotor anyways). The only way to get away with bigger brakes w/o changing the knuckle, is to purchase a big brake kit made for your car (like the wilwood 90-00 civic 12.2" kit). The main problem w/ this kit is that you will need bigger wheels (min 16", but most 16's won't work either) to make the kit fit. It is chaper to get GSR brakes, but you will most likely want to replace rotors, pads, hardware, balljoints, wheel bearings, and rebuild your calipers when you do this. All those parts don't take kindly to being left in a junkyard for any long period of time. Also, w/ any bigger than stock brake kit, you will need a larger Master Cylinder (91 civic 4dr ex 15/16ths). One other think, you didn't mention is what f---ing car you have...

Re: Brake Upgrade (94eg!)
Thanks for the info. This is looking to be a bit of a bigger project than I thought. I can get the OEM honda parts for farly cheap but this is just my daily and Im not trying to spend a ton of money on it. Looks like its just gunna be stock calipers. I'll probably do some new brake lines while Im at it though...any sugestions or is one brand as good as any?

Re: Brake Upgrade (ef-sihatch)
i have had very good luck with the brembo rotors and axxis metal master pads. io also have the goodridge ss lines. all stock size. the brakes easily lock up the 15" yoko ES100 i am running so i don't see any need to up rotor/caliper size.
if you go with good rotors and an agressive pad you will have all the stopping power you need!

Re: Brake Upgrade (ef-sihatch)
i know for a fact that EG/EK brakes are upgradeable with 2.2vtec prelude calipers+carriers & 2.2vtec disks drilled to the right pcd. its a straight swap, besides redrilling the right pcd, nothing else requries modification. i have this setup on my car (but with MG disks which are 4x100 stock anyway, not sure how easily sourceable these are in the US). if this swap is not possible, get some dot 5.1 brake fluid, braided hoses such as goodrich, and very good quality brakes pads... will give a much better braking with just these few mods.
