bought new axle - too short
I just bought 2 new axles at pep boys. Since I have a b16 with a gsr tranny, I told them I needed two integra gsr axle(I emphasized VTEC). I bought them, took them home, and tried putting on the left one - its too short(see pic below). What wrong axle could they have given me? Is the LS left axle shorter than the GSR? I will be going back to pep boys tomorrow and want to make sure they give me the correct axles.
The axle on the bottom is what was on my car, the top one is the new one.
Also, anyone know how to separate the tie rod from the knuckle? (i'm reverting back to stock knuckles). I tried to bang the screw out but it doesn't budge. Helms says there is supposed to be a special tool I need to use.

Dont have an answer for the axle problem but...
Try using a hammer and hit the knuckle near the tie rod. It should "shock" the ball joint loose.

I've never seen a 94+ integra axle that was a different length as another model integra. In fact, we put a gsr motor in my boy's ls and used the ls axles. . .

Re: bought new axle - too short (civic dx)
basically, GSR = LS axles
What may have happened, someone may have used another type of axle as a core. They rebuilt it and labeled it as a GSR axle. Go back and try to get a refund.
Obviously, take in your axle to compare.

Or maybe you got a 92-93 GSR axle????

Can the axles be pulled on without damaging them? This is my first time replacing axles and don't want to damage the new ones.
I even tried using a sledgehammer on the tie rod...wouldn't budge. It looks like it should just slide out like the rest of the suspension but it won't come out.

It just looks to me like the inner joint on the bottom axle is all pulled out of place. Push that crap back into place and then measure it again. But on the flipside Pepboys is a total clown circus when it comes to parts.

ALL 94 Integra axles GS/LS/RS/GSR/TYPE R axles are the same length. Some axles came with the "ring" for ABS equipped cars. The ABS ringed axles can go on a non-abs equipped car or an abs car.
Your new axle doesn't have the "ring" on it, which makes me believe it's for a 90-93 teg. All GSRs (94-01) came with ABS. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Re: bought new axle - too short (Mikey)
It doesnt matter though. the axle lengths will be the same wether there is abs or not. I swapped my ***** used abs axles with non abs ones and they work perfect. Aslo your whole post is kinda confusing. you staste in the beginning that all teg axles from 94 are the same and that "some" have an abs ring, that would in turn imply that some do not. therefore just because it doesnt have an abs "ring" on it wouldnt necessarily indicate it wasnt from that year. you are correct in the statement that all 94-01 GSR tegs have abs though. hehe sory not trying to be an ***.

Re: bought new axle - too short (monicle)
well, I think I found out why my axle doesn't fit. The axle is part of a kit which includes a different size intermediate shaft and axle. So, I need either buy the kit axle/rebuild it, or replace the knuckle and intermediate shaft with stock ones and use a stock axle.
