How do I put the new belt and tensioner on
It said to loosen tensioner and retighten it
Turn crankshaft counterclockwise six turns
Ensure timing marks are aligned
Losen tensioner bolt
*turn the crankshaft counterclockwise for 3 teeth on camshaft sprocket
Then torque the tensioner bolt to 40ft lbs

Do I have to do the part marked with *

Yes. That's what actually tensions the belt. The other part just gets the belt centered on all the gears.

I dunno, yer supposed to check the deflection of the belt when your done tensioning it. So that'll tell you if it's too tight.

Gates actually makes the OEM timing belts. So you are fine.

A OEM timing belt with say Honda and Gates on it.

The belt has nothing on it but
Made in uk 227 37 055 9ds 054 9ds 053 9ds

Is there a special way to check the tightness on the belt

grab it and move it around.
You want to be able to move it a bit. Too tight is bad, too loose is bad.

I suggest you get a manual or start doing some research.

+1

You really should get a manual. I always go 3 teeth, that's how I was taught at the dealer.

The deflection of the belt should be between 1/2in and 1 in.

I purchased an OEM D16 water pump from Honda and the blades were made from sheet metal as opposed to the cast impeller on the original (same part # and all). No picture, it's already installed.

I'm sure it'll be fine but there are aftermarket water pumps that have the beefier blades. Seems kinda cheap.

So, OEM may not necessarily be the best, at least in the case of the new pumps.
