The bogging thread
Ever since I aquired my JDM EG9 Ferio with b16a it's had this low RPM bogging under load. This usually happens below or around 2000rpm. I put my foot down maybe 20% throttle and the car hesitates and splutters until it goes over 2500rpm then it revs fine all the way to redline.
I just want to start this thread for people to describe their past experiences and fixes for this bogging problem.
Im guessing it's something to do with ignition e.g. sparkplugs, leads, distributor cap, rotor, coil, timing?
Or maybe fueling eg. injectors, clogged fuel filter, busted fuel pump?
Please share your past problems and fixes. Thanks

Re: The bogging thread (tianporn)
if it's been more than 30k since a tune-up. then do one. cap, rotor, plugs, fuel filter, timing and wires if needed. check for vacuum leaks, loose connections and CEL codes. without eliminating "consumable" items that wear out it's difficult to troubleshoot anything if everything is a variable.

I'm having the same problem. I did valve adjustment, timing belt, plugs. Before I bought the car, rotor, cap, fuel filter, ignition wires were done 4 months ago for a "miss-firing problem" sais the service record. I was told maybe the wires they put on only lasted 3 months because they were crappy belkins. I will try replacing those today and see if it is a fix. I don't have a scope to check them but I'm going to replace them with good OEM or NGK wires. I'll let you know if it fixes it.
You can check resistance of the wires with an ohm meter to see if it's too high. It shouldn't be above 25000.

Hey I've currently got MSD 8.5mm ones as well. The red ones. I've noticed that one of the plug connections that go into the dizzy cap has almost snapped off. Hmm maybe thats the reason why. Im still waiting for my mate to send me some OEM ones.

Not a b16, but here's my experience. My dizzy went a week ago in my z6 (only had 80k...argh), upon replacing it, I developed a mean bog below or at 2k. Ran fine above that, but my problem is self explanatory, it still HAS to be out of time just a bit...

i am having the same problem at partial throttle. i recently installed an msd sci and a blaster coil. i have nology hot wires and put new plugs. i changed the fuel filter, clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder still doing it. could it be the clutch? i still have the one that came with my b18b swap so i'm not sure what type of condition it may be in. also could it be that when i crimped the wire for the coil i did it too short and its not working correctly. if this can be it why does it not happen all the time? it only happens once in a while... happened today but hasn't happened in about 3 days. i need help with this issue.

Re: (tianporn)
Problem is fixed. Bought new NGK blue spark plug wires. No more low rpm bogging, no more idle surging problems.
