anyone know what cleaning product/method would yield the best results?

I just used a lot of engine degreaser and simple green recently, when my motor was out. If you have the patience, just take your time. I painted a few brackets back to the original color and scraped about 2inches of axle grease off the rear crossmember

if u dont have a pressure washer, get some eagle one "all wheel cleaner" not the aluminum or chrome wheel cleaner, get the all wheel cleaner as it is not as strong as the others, wet everything, spray this stuff on let it set a couple minutes and then spray it off, repeat until u get it clean, worked great on my coupe that came from minesota, I had all kinds of road salt/grime and grease in my engine bay.

spray on engine degreaser to get the greasy, nasty stuff off. rinse w/ water.

then simple green, full strength worked in with a a 3" painters brush. rinse and repeat as needed. to get the small crevices, a toothbrush works great. just use plenty of water to rinse.

paint brackets and small stuff before engine goes back in.

i want to paint the whole engine bay black or possibly the color my car is going to be. so i am gonna have a pretty big task ahead of me thats why its important i get it as clean as possible

do it right, take EVERYTHING OUT... sand everything down, have it premiered and painted, and then re-install everything, except try to hide as much crap as you can.

I didn't use a hose like some of you crazy guys did, but a bucket of simple green, a tooth brush and a larger brush for the bigger areas got the eninge bay back to almost showroom floor new.

U just have to go over the stuff carefully getting into each crevice and corner it takes a lot of time/elbow grease.

My hatch is white and I had to go over many spots over and over cause builup on the paint, once i kept brushing, I would finally get down to the original white.

well i did the simple green method and painted it and it came out like this:



ill have better pics up later if you guys wanna see. i used black BBQ paint and on the crossmember and a few other things i used dark grey hammered metal finish paint
