if youve been using non-synthetic and you have over 100,000 miles, DO NOT SWITCH to fully synthetic...could do some harm to a motor that old. Get any kind of name brand oil, Mobil, Castrol, Valvoline, w/e....put some Lucas Oil Stabilizer in there and rock out....

I have used mobile 1 full synthetic 5-30 in every one of my cars since day one. (none i needed to break in, never brake in with a synthetic oil)

My logic is if it is good enough for porsche to use from the factory then it was good enough for me.

Never had an issue with any of them including my moms accord with 250k on the clock and my trans am with 170k. no oil burning no dripping nada.

Also its like 20 bucks for 5 quart jug at wally world (wal-mart)

as for never switching to a fully synthetic after 100k on an engine, i have never heard of such a thing.

Actually that is now a myth. Used to be the case for older generations of oils but nowadays it shouldn't. Article was in a recent issue of Honda Tuning or Modified

Just use any name brand oil 5w-30 or 10w-30 in the Summer time. I buy my Mobil 5000 at Walmart and use Fram filters.

Do regurlar oil/filter changes between 3000-5000 miles, keep checking the oil until you understand how much, if any the car uses.

IMO a lot of guy's make way to much out of this oil thing.

My DD is a 05 Subaru Legacy GT with 109,000 miles pushing 16.5psi boost and has no oil issues. I have use Shell, Exxon, Mobil, Pennzoil, what ever is on sale. My 92Si had 216,000 miles went we took it off the street. All of them were on what ever oil was on sale. We boosted it at 196,000 miles.

I'm 54y/o and have been doing this for a while. Just change the oil and filter when you should. Don't beat on the car and then turn it off, drive it easy for the last couple of minutes.

Agreed!

I've used Mobil 1 10W-30 motor oil for years (Red Line MT-90 in my trannies) - and never had an engine/tranny failure!

The thing is...

Mobil 1 has been reformulated several times - and these reformulation(s) have involved protecting emissions equipment - often to the detriment of engine life!

Motor oil (these days) is designed to protect sensitive emissions equipment and increase fuel economy. Engine life has become secondary to oil conservation and clean air!

For instance: Mobil 1 was great in the late 90's, but the 'anti-wear additives' were wrecking cat converters - so, they removed a lot of the zinc, which acts as an extreme pressure (EP) additive. When they removed the zinc, top-fuel race cars started blowing rods and cranks like crazy - every race.

Mobil started adding (an existing) gearbox EP additive to Mobil 1, especially formulated for race cars - and a year later started putting the EP additive in regular Mobil 1. They call this additive "SuperSyn" and it's unique to Mobil 1.

Extra credit reading: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...7/ai_85494225/ (BNET Business Library - 2002 SuperSyn Article)

Today, ALL motor oil producers are required (by mandate) to take the 'anti-wear additives' out of regular motor oil, to protect 2006-up emissions equipment - and this ILSAC GF-4 oil is bad for older cars like ours!

Thankfully, Mobil 1 still makes oil designed for older rides. It's called "Mobil 1 High Mileage" - and it has all the 'anti-wear additives' that our rides require, plus the additive package contains chemistry that keeps the internals clean, and stop oil seepage, et cetera.

What do I run??? Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-30 (and Purolator PureONE oil filters).

If you care about making your motor last DO NOT put ILSAC GF-4 (such as regular Mobil 1 motor oil) in it.

How can you tell the difference between regular Mobil 1 motor oil and M-1 HM???

Im a Castrol peson never had problems Use it on my durago wich is notorious for sludging up due to small small oil galleries. Mine is sludge free at 120,000 miles and runs like a top. Mobile 1 is a very good oil too. I dont really like Penn or QuakerState.

Yeah...

Actually, it's a case of poor marketing, IMHO!

The label should read, "For 2005 and older vehicles".

My B16 runs GREAT on M-1 HM. It really quieted down the LMAs!
