Default *Which oil to use on Built Turbo'd motor?? Opinions please

Like title states, im wondering which is the best oil to use on a built GSR sleeved turbo'd motor? as of now its on Castrol non synthetic 20w50 , motor has approx 4,600miles, and that's been the oil used since it was built. I just think it may be too thick for that motor. Any opinions on which to switch to? or leave it as IS?

i do the same as a normal oil change just check it like you would do any oil but if you go and change it this time and theres any debris or metal shaving in it from the fresh re build then you eathier might not wanna use the royal purple just yet cause you dont wanna have to change it agian 500 miles down the road

I always ran Mobil 1 5w30 in mine. changed every 3000 miles, and have had no problems with 50k miles on the motor after the turbo went on.

I used the RP 10w40 over the summer and I was not very fond of it, it leaks out places that other oils dont (why I dont know), switched to Castrol GTX and 10w40 in the summer and the car felt MUCH smoother, and stopped leaking. I change my oil every 1k miles so I dont feel the need to run an expensive oil, my oil is still pretty much clear when I change it.

This is the best oil i've found. The ONLY oil i've seen stop the cam and rocker wear problems common in high rpm/high spring pressure race applications. We went from changing cams and rockers every 3-4 events using Mobil 1 15/50 synthetic to having over a year of racing on things with Brad Penn 20w50. It's all we use here now. After seeing the results first hand, i'll never use anything else. Not to mention it's very reasonably priced.

technically no. i personally run 4 qts 10w40 and 1 20w50 in new england its cold in the winter. i plan on straight 20w50 this summer though i run valvoline or castrol without any issues just reg motor oil.

really depends on how much you hammer the car and idle the car to how much viscosity break down your going to get and how much fuel will get into the oil. i generally change my oil every 2000 miles unless i hammer the car and getting to thin from fuel then 1500 miles but everyone has there own opinions. its really what you feel is ok

I experienced the exact same problem with Mobile 1.

Ive had these exact same EXCELLENT results witgh the Royal Purple 10-40. Ive heard the same of the Brad Penn..

The ZInc dithiophospahte and synthetic packages are very very effective, and yo WONT find the levels of it in a run of the mill US produced pil due to EPA restrictions.

Don't understand why your running such a thick oil but only the original engine builder will know that for sure. If you can find out what your bearing clearances were to give you idea what kind of oil you should use.

I was using Mobil 1 10w-30 forever but I just decided to switch to Castrol Syn 10w-30.
