Default Best first mods for a new Si?

Hi... a friend of mine just bought a 2000 Civic Si. He used to have a '95 EX sedan, and I drive a LS Integra, so we're both pretty familiar with Hondas, but we're wondering what the most effective mods for the new Si's are.

The car already has a short ram intake, so I guess he should get a CAI extension pipe before anything else. He wants to get an exhaust for it too, but nothing extremely loud.

Also, what are some good springs that drop about 1.5-2"? His old Civic with Eibach Prokits rode & handled really well, but it wasn't quite low enough, so maybe some Sportlines would be good? Are there any inexpensive coilovers that are still good quality? How low can you go before needing camber kits and new shocks?

Tnanks... I guess my next post will have to be something like "How can I make my non-vtec Integra faster than a Civic Si?...

CAI would be the first thing i'd do. Exhuast on the other hand, I am really not sure what kind to get that is not loud. I have a Apex N-1 on my ITR and it is loud, but I like it like that. I have heard N-1's one several SI's and GSR's and they didn't seem as loud inside the car than mine. Probably has something to do with no sound deading material in my car. IMO, the N-1 is one othe best looking and sounding exhausts out there. Does your friend want some adjustability? If so, coilovers are the way to go. RedRacer is one of my buds and he has Skunk2's on his Del Sol and it rides really nice. If he gets coilovers he should get some nice adjustable shocks too. RedRacer also has some KYB AGX's that are nice too. All in all, I think he has about $800 or so in his suspension. I have a Ingalls camber kit on my R and I went about 1 3/4 lower than stock. The main reasron that I got it was because the stock tires are outrageuos and I didn't want to replace them every 6,000 miles or so.

The first thing I did was mod the suspension. I went with a set of Ground Control coilovers (they use Eibach springs) and Tokico blues. Make sure you get an alignment right after you lower it unless you like spending money on tires. Next I went with a Mugen exhaust. I love the sound and I didn't loose any lowend power that you sometimes lose with catbacks. As far as intakes Im looking into Aem and the Comptech Cai.

well, couple of things that i can think of are a tanabe racing medallion exhaust and a header. Racersi has the tanabe on his si and its sweet. he does have a silencer that he can toss in if he wants, but usually he doesnt since it is not that loud. i just finished putting a dc sports 4-2-1 header on my car and it helped out a lot. the b16 has a horrible launch due to its low torque. the 4-2-1 helped out the mid-range of 2-5k rpms.

My first mod i would suggest would also be the suspension. But i think starting with the tires would be best. Stock tires are the worst.

not sure what racing medallion exhaust you heard, but every one I've heard was loud as hell without the silencer .

G2 Integ: Your friend might want to look into the Apexi World Sport. From what I've heard, it is quiet in normal driving, but at WOT it has a nice roar... so I've heard from people who have it, I don't have an exhaust yet but when I get one I will get a World Sport...

quiet exhaust..apexi world sport.
As for a 1.5" drop i'd suggest a tokico spring/shock set or eibach pro-kits/kyb agx's. They're both a 1.5" drop which shouldn't require the use of a camber kit. Oh yah, when he gets sick of those OEM michelins, try a set of kuhmo ecsta(sp?) supra 712's.

Apex'i WS has problems with the piping rubbing against the Si's FUEL tank. Check in the Performance forum at Clubsi.

Get an AEM or yank the resonator out of your stock airbox and use some aluminum ducting to draw some cool air. Get a header, preferably a JDM ITR 4-1 and test pipe/Carsound cat if you can afford it. If not, get the DC 4-1.

Lose the stock Michelins - they are EVIL.

I agree with Kengs.

1.) Tires... for god's sake get rid of your stock tires.
2.) Suspension - dont get some cheapo springs and shocks, instead start with an ITR 22mm rear sway and work up from there
3.) Brakes - good pads, lines, fluid... nothin outrageous - I use/suggest Hawk
4.) Lastly, I'd hit under the hood with a decent header from Apex, JDM 4-1 (requires a new/modified cat). CAI's are good ideas and relatively cheap.

I would go with the CAI first then header and exhaust together. The third thing would be to get a cam gear to get a bit more hp low end. That outta be good for now until he decides to get serious with mods. I forget who said swap, but that is - nothing wrong with that DOHC engine.

an alarm and an ignition kill and another set of wheel locks and a cop radar is all you need to go fast in a civic everything else is just expensive.... end of discussion

?? I suppose you mean drive fast, and not "be fast", because well, a stock B16 si isn't *that* fast. Don't get me wrong, they are nice cars, and come with a great engine to build your platform from, but stock......... I guess it depends on what your comparing your car to when you say it is fast. I compare to other cars at drag strips on T&T night. I guess you don't? (please don't attack me on this, I'm just a tad confused by what you meant by that statement. Enough people think an Si is the "be all, end all" of performance, and we don't need another one to think that too.)

I would go with suspension, first. After putting suspension on a friends Civic, it made the car go from "econo car he wants to fix up" to "fun little car that needs to hurry up and get an engine swap" in my eyes in one day

I was just jokin' with the guy! Since he just bought his car I'm sure the last thing he wants to hear is "engine swap". Just messin' around. I don't have a beef with the B16's, I love 'em. Twin cam technology is great. Don't take things so personal. PEACE.

I think he meant fast under street (non-track) conditions.
