belt noise
my car has been making a squealing noise and i havent really worried about it till now since the noise has gotten louder.
its constantly squealing but when it is wet (after car wash or rain) it stops until its dried then it makes the noise again.
car is a 98 civic ex manual transmission.
ive been told that the belt is loose, or that the adjuster needs to be replaced and people telling me to just buy and replace ALL belts.
im trying to find out what it is before i start buying parts, replacing them then it happens to be somthing that i didnt have to do.
im on a tight budget so i am trying to avoid buying unneccessary parts
edit// noise seems to be comming from the driver side

Re: belt noise
How old are the belts? Are they OEM? How much play do they have? Inspect them and see how they visually look. In most cases the belts are either worn out, too tight, or too lose. My belts are a lil noisy but they are old and in need of replacement. Also, they are aftermarket so I purchased some OEM ones.

Re: belt noise
Check the alignment of the pulleys. If it rubs even just a little bit on the side of a pulley, it can cause a noise. For a temporary (100ish miles) fix, pour some baking soda on the belts while they are moving. I did this for ~5k miles with my chrysler until I could replace the pulleys.
