Default vtec speed sensor

i know there are requirements for vtec to engage...
i know the speed sensor is required, my electronic speed sensor is connected, but the VSS on my tranny is missing thus my speedo isn't working...does this mean i have no vtec...
how can i simply tell if my vtec is engaging?

Your vtec isn't engaging if your VSS is missing. It is one of the requirements that need to be met in order for vtec to engage. If you can feel a drop off in power from 6000+ rpms then your vtec isn't working.
