Default B20b Questions and a little problem

OKay, so I bought an new hatch and yes I blew another SOHC non-Vtec motor (will post pics later). I decided to go with something a little better that was in my price range at this time, 96' B20 Yay! So the motor install finished today. I had to use a GSR header for lack of anything better. Right now the car is running open header. It boggs a little on low end but pulls good under full throttle (I was told it just need back pressure to fix the low end pull) The problem i'm having is at constant RPM the car sputters, no matter what RPM i'm at, but if i hit the clutch and rev the RPMs go up no problem. It also idles at 6-700 rpm, and sometimes dies after i pull off the freeway. It finally threw a code 17 which is the VSS (spedo's not working either) but I don't think that would have any effect on the cars idle. I do not have the O2 sensor pluged in , but it hasnt thrown a code for that yet. Any thoughts would help?

Cliff notes:
96' B20b in 97 DX hatch
Sputters at constant RPM only under load (like freeway or street driving)
Doesnt sputter when revving or under full throttle
Throwing code 17 - VSS (VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor)

Heres what i'm using:
96' B20
OBD2 to OBD1 jumper harness
P75 ECU
97 GSR header (no O2 sensor) (running open header untill tomorrow)
Stock DX radiator

Any ideas would help!
Thanks
Alex

I think it's different in japan. I think everything is a year older. I've seen pics on those japanese car importer sites where they had an EG (I know it was an EG because it had pics) and it was labeled as a '91 . Over here they started in '92. So, it could be a 96. My b20b was stamped 96 on it. Or maybe the motor was just made in '96.

yeah i am sure the motor was made in 96 but it was putt in the 97 model. most cars are made sept the year before. so there for it will have 96 stamped on it.

Yup , I see you all the time. Stock height right? but black rota slips. Yeah i'll come talk to you next time i see you.

So heres the new problem!
Now not only does it cut out when i'm driving, but if I try and hold it at a stedy RPM (say 2500) it will rev to 2500 then back to 600 then back to 2500 without me letting off of the gas. Think it could be the TPS?

Think we should combine efforts on this ****. I have B20b as well. And am having almost exactly the same problems. Low idle. Though my usually goes up to around 1300-1400 after it's been running for a while. I turned the idle bypass down all the way or else it runs at 1500 and bounces between 1500 and 1510.

I also cannot keep a steady throttle when driving at any rpm. Car studders and runs like crap. Accelerates fine though. Anyway get back to me if your interested in combining efforts on this one. It's like 2am here and i'm tire.. can't type much .. hope to hear from ya

BTW. Your running OBD2 into OBD1? Yet you have P75 which is OBD2? isn't it?

Its got be either spark or fuel. I dont think anything is wrong with the motor it self. I'm thinking its the TPS sensor, but I would like to know if anyone has had one go out on them before.

I thought the P75 was an OBD1 ECU? I'm not running any O2 sensor, but I'm not throwing a code for one either???

it has to be the o2 sensor. It might not throw a code for some reason but that is probably why it is running so stupid. Plug that in and it should run fine. If not check the tps voltage and the IAC.

and the motor is obd2? thats weird. have you checked the IACV? I know the ones for a automatic were different. not sure how but I know they are. Maybe your b20 came from a automatic?

I thought the B20 IM sat too high up?! and if it is froma crv then it is 100% from an automatic...

I know he most likely changed the IM, but did he swap the components like the IACV over or did he use the ones from the LS manifold.

The B20 I got came out of a coupe in Japan, the intake manifold from the coupes is just like an LS intake mani.
I'm going to try and get a new IACV and TPS this week. Its really frustrating driving a car that pulls then bogs, pulls then bogs, especially with open header. EVERYONE thinks i'm trying to race hehe.

hey what's up 2kTypeRHatch, i thought there was no way to have the B20 legal in Cali? i'm thinking about going with that motor... where do you work at? I work at citibank...

haha then we could tune our cars together! i don't make enough money though...

check you later, i'll probably be in Burlingame later tonight. We defiantly gotta meet up and cruzzze. You ever go to the Sunday SCCA meets? i'm prepping my car for that. I got a lot of work to do though, saving up for suspension and a good motor, still running d15b7... still fun though!
