B20 Engine Swap or D16Y7 Build
Yo guys,
I am suck and do not know what to do. I either want to swap in a b20 for some more torque, or build up my d16y7. (put on a y8 intake manifold, si tranny, cam etc. It already has short ram intake, headers, full 2.5" straight piped exhaust, msd ignition (not just wires and plugs LOL but blaster cap) & strut bars.) I would like to do a swap but i do not know much about them. would a b20 swap be hard in my 99 dx hatch? what would i need to do? should i invest more into my y7 or swap something else than a b20? i also do not want to spend over 2 grand for the swap. i think it goes pretty good to me my friends cobalt ss/sc only pulls away by like 3-4 cars when we race which i think is pretty decent. what do you guys think???

eh, in all honesty, the only way REALLY to get any torque out of the single cam, is boost. and its gonna take a pretty decent amount of cash to build it to make it run hard. I'd get the b20, just becas you can make it a pretty beefy all motor or boost.
if you were feeling all motor, you can put a b16 or GSR head on it, with some small work to make it rev to about 9 grand. and it'd be a good daily driver, and run alright times at the track..

I say go B20. Right out of the box, you are going to get more torque than you could EVER get without turbo from the D16Y7. Also, the B20 will produce more HP than you will ever get from the D16Y7 without ALOT of work. Yes, $2000 is a decent amount of money. BUT, you can easily spend this kind of cash trying to get powe from the D16Y7, and not get good results.

I put a B20 in my hatch 4 years ago and I love it. With a lil more money you can boost it safely to 300hp with out alot of engine work just acl race bearings and arp rod bolts. GO B20
