b17a in 97 hatch
hello everyone, i just did a b17a swap to my civic and i've been searching for parts to improve power. i've installed all the basic bolt ons header, intake, exhaust, stage 3 clutch etc. and now i'm lookin at the vtech controller. i'm pretty much a noob and i was wondering which model would fit and perform the best for my engine. and i was wonder which ever program it is how much power would i get from it? and please give me some suggestions on other things that'll give me more power. other than FI. cause damn that ***** too rare and too expensive for my engine. especially the vortech sc. anyways any suggestion would be helpfull THANK YOU!

1. vtec, not vtech
2. With a vtec controller you better go get it tuned using a dyno at a shop that knows what they're doing. Don't go messing with the settings and blowing up your motor like someone did here a few days ago.

yeah not vtech. vtec
it's a rare swap.
If you don't wonna go FI get some cams, springs. And then get it tuned.

there is no model program. You won't gain power with out dyno tuning, and vafc is not that good for that niether.
Buy some more stuff for the car then maybe go hondata or uberdata and get it tuned.

Re: b17a in 97 hatch (ABK)
just make a custom turbo kit. it'll be fun.
edit: ecu=engine's computer ///// vafc=vtec air fuel controller(or something like that)- its a tuning device.

ECU is you r engines computer (the brain) VAFC Vtec air fuel controller. It does just that. And as for Hondata.... the S100 I believe is the model that you cant add options too and the S200 you can such as data logging etc. you can change it how ever many times you want. Do you guy have OBD testing out there? SInce you put an enigne from a 92-93 vehicle into a 97. That could arise as a problem.

Personally, I wouldn't make any major N/A upgrades with that motor until the compression was brought up to a decent level. I love the motor, but I hate the compression. I wouldn't bother with a VAFC until later.

^ they are hard to find...being that only 3,000-4,500 were ever produced.
you have to get lucky and find someone selling a wrecked gs-r..lol...if you wait out a sale for a B17A, i have heard people have sold them for $2,500...all depends on location and demand really
i just recently sold a B17A for $800...after dealing with lowballers (not this site) for months i finally got fed up and sold the damn thing.
came out of this...also motor had 134,447 miles

I bought a wrecked 93 GS-R last week for $1200...tons of miles though
To the original poster, what you should do is spend a couple hours browsing around the "All-Motor" section of this site. You'll get some ideas I'm sure. The VAFC wouldn't be a bad investment, but if you're looking for a noticable increase in power look around for a set of used cams on here...
