97 HX VTEC-E controller
New to HT,
wondering if anyone knows about controllers available for the VTEC E or if the regular vtec controllers will work on them
i was looking at a APEXI VAFCII Controller but i need to know will it function correctly.

Re: 97 HX VTEC-E controller
im trying to get some better power without going the turbo route. i dont know if i could use something like hondata but im sure theres no dyno around here at all. and im bout to throw the intake and header on there soon. so im looking for routes to check in to. a guy at my parts store in town suggested i get a vtec controller and mess with that till i get it where i like it. idk if its gonna do much anyways. any suggestions?

manually engaging the vtec will not give you more power. If you want a faster car, I suggest you sell the car you have and get something else because you would be wasting your time and potentially devaluing your car.

Re: 97 HX VTEC-E controller
i agree with ya
im really likely to mess something up being how my luck is and really i would have no clue where to start
so im gonna leave the street tuning deal alone and just find some regular odds and ends to help it perform a little better and look good and leave the ecm like it is for now

You have the economical version of the civic, D series engines dont respond well to performance parts your better off getting the EX model

Re: 97 HX VTEC-E controller
If you want to control it through the ECU, get Hondata or look into if Chrome or one of the other tuning softwares can control nitrous or something because then you could tune the computer to engage the 1st vtec point that way, and then the 2nd would be engaged like normal VTEC.

Re: 97 HX VTEC-E controller
yeah
does something like hondata s100 have to be done with dyno or is that just an option
cause on some of the forums ive read about it sounds like it learns what the car is doing and continues to improve everytime you run the car
but idk i aint messed with none of that stuff yet

Re: 97 HX VTEC-E controller
No you should leave the car alone, but you're going to do what you want to do. S100/200/300 only work on OBD1 ECUs and your car is a OBD2 ECU. You'd have to buy a conversion harness and a P28 ECU, and have the Hondata unit installed and taken to a tuner to have it tuned. Tuning brings together what you have done to your car, all of that would be pointless as your car is 1) completely stock 2) the fuel economy model 3) your budget is probably less that $500. BTW all that I mentioned, if done the right way, will cost $1200 easy, all to pick up 10whp if you are lucky.
My advice, get a book called "the total money makeover", leave your car alone and pay it off and save up for a car that's worthy of modifying.
What I know you will do is ignore me and spend wastefully for negligible gains and devalue your vehicle. With that said, stick with a nice wheel/tire package, eibach sportline springs, intake, cat back exhaust and some quality stereo upgrades.
Goodluck

Re: 97 HX VTEC-E controller
this guy is like every other person that just gets a honda and thinks its a rocket he doesnt listen
the car has been designed to be economical its pointless to spend cash on it its like trying to modify the D17
dude sell the car and trade it for something else or swap it cause you seriously are going to f*ck your S*it up
swap the car and thats pretty much it or dont drive a honda cause it isnt a sports car as u think it is

Waste of time and money tuning that engine.
Please don't bother.
They havn't enuff power to begin with.
Just drive it to work til you can afford a conversion
or a faster model. Not trying to put down your **** but
thats really is the way it is..................

Re: 97 HX VTEC-E controller
To get more performance you would be better off finding an ex tranny, the y5 is a good motor just not many people have or even understand them because they are rare. There has been a few people over the years on here with turbo y5's. The main hurdle is how the camshaft is designed along with vtec engagement and that noone makes an aftermarket replacement camshaft.
Spade has some really good articles if you search for them.
