b16a2 slow launch
Okay, so i bought a 98 civic with a 00 si b16a2 swap. The car has a very slow pickup and i tried launching at 3000 rpm and it just bogged and dropped back to 1000rpm and drove as if i was driving normally from a stop sign... The car feels like it doesnt have any power up until 4000 rpm.. After 4000 rpm it feels like i got a sudden power boost, then vtec kicks in and feels like another boost..But up until 4000 rpm the car runs like ***.. If i start driving even from a red light the car bogs and it feels as if i have slicks on where i caught to much grip. (i dont have slicks on though, just to make it clear). The rpm raises very slowly even when i do a wot. But after 4000 rpm it feels okay. Any help would be appreciated!!!
ps i checked the timing belt, and it wasnt off a tooth...its on correctly. all the marks lined up.

Re: b16a2 slow launch
yes, i did get a cel yesterday. I was driving in 3rd gear and around 3000rpm, so i deicide to floor it. And the car felt like it wasnt doing anything and then pop, the cel goes on...So i drive home and connect my obd2 scanner and it comes up error. So im like wtf. THen i turn the car off and turn it back on, and the cel is gone..So i go do the exact same driving again and it came back on. I found my ecu today, and its supposebly a type r ecu 96-98.
the number on the side was 37820 p73 003. And my car idles fine so im thinking it cant be the wires or plugs. And i sat in my buddies civic wit a b16a2, same as mines and his car did not bog like mines.

Re: b16a2 slow launch
and which ecu would that be? Is there a reason why i cant read my cel codes, And i know you could use the paper clip way, but once i turn the car off the codes go away, so would it still work?

Re: b16a2 slow launch
The B16a2 (99-00 SI) ecu is P2P if im not mistaking. The P73 should run the car just fine tho and isnt the reason your throwing a code(s). B16 motors just dont have any ***** all motor and a 3K lauch is a little low IMO. Rev it to like 6-65000rpms when lauching and it'll be alot better, that way it'll spin a little then bog down about 1000rpms and be close to vtec and a better power band. Its been awhile since I've had a B16 but I remember when I had one I was launching it mighty high to get it going.

Re: b16a2 slow launch
My car does this after I boosted it, but I'm pretty sure I just have almost no throttle response until i get some boost because of how long the piping/intercooler/the turbo kinda inhibiting airflow when its not spooling. Maybe I'm wrong, but whatever.

Re: b16a2 slow launch
Yea, i get what your saying, but even when i drive normally, my car keeps bogging off the line...after that it doesnt bog. And i only feel power after 4000rpm. I cant seem to figure out why it keeps trying to bog, as if it were gonna stall. And i could be reving to 4000 and as soon as i let the clutch go alittle it bogs back to 1000 within a sec. And does anyone know why i cant read my cel codes?

Re: b16a2 slow launch
yea i used the paper clip, light trick, and counted the flashes...i got 7 (tps) and i fixed it. Now in the morning my car actually felt like it had power...and now when i went back out, it felt it was the same. Im starting to think it could be the coolant problem. I read on here about a guy who had the same prob, and it turned out his engine was getting to hot, and thats y he was losing power. Im thinking about draining the coolant and putting in some new coolant and see if that helps.

Re: b16a2 slow launch
What did you do to fix the TPS? Did you replace it or just loosen the throttle cable back again?
You shouldn't have slack in the cable, and when replacing the TPS you need to calibrate it.

Re: b16a2 slow launch
i had a 99 civic si and i did a full wire tire on it...i removed the egr valve and evap system and that problem started to happen to me so it could be related to your emission system (if your still on OB2) but thats my 2 cents

Re: b16a2 slow launch
There should be a sticker on the transmission itself on the front, or if its gone, the only sure fire way to tell is to look at the stamp on the passenger side just above the axle.
