Overheating problems with new thermostat!

Default Overheating problems with new thermostat!

Ok I have been reading about overheating problems for the past couple days and I cant find an answere to this. I crank the car up..and once it hits the middle temp mark..it slowley climbs up the the red H mark and I cant figure out why. My upper radd hose is hott and my lower radd hose is cold. I took the thermostat out, put it in a pot of water, heated it up, and when it got to 78* it was fully open. I just bought this engine used...I havent tired to flush it and I also havent bledd it. I am doing this tomorrow but I broke the bleeder valve so I need to buy one heh.

When I took the thermostat out coolent poured out everywhere from the engine side ...does this rule out a water pump problem?

bleed your system first...
you could bleed from the radiator cap...

I am going to do that tomorrow (I need a new bleeder valve). But I would still like to know if a water pump could still be bad with no leaks and coolent packed behind the thermostat. I also header that iv your air conditioning does blow hot air, your water pump may be out. Is that true?

dud you sre u didnt put it in backwards.. sounds like a rookir problem but i have even done it myself

Well actually I didnt put it in myself but I know that it is new. The coil part of the thermostat is going into the engine. And the top flat part is going into the lower radd hose..this is correct isnt it?

yea it is... phew.. drain your coolant. then take off the thermo resivoir and with a bright light look into the coolant tube make sure that there is no obsrtuction. and same for the coolant hose and the radiator.. then if all is good put it back together and refill and bleed the car through rad cap.. fill up to bottom of neck start engine let idle and monitor level. gently squeeze the top hose to relieve air bubbles. carfully watch it all. u dont want it to everheat in case there is a real problem.. report back
