B16A Eg Stall followed by temporary no start
Hey guys,
I have an EG with a B16A swap, today i was waiting at the lights with my foot on the clutch and my car stalled out, all electronic components work, engine cranked, was full with fuel ect... so i just rolled her to a small street and inspected her. All seemed good ground wires were all good, starter wasnt the issue, it wasn't the battery. I waited and started her after 10 min without a problem. I recently had a no start issue but that was the main relay. Any ideas??? The car was on for about 5 min after leaving school, the tempurature out side was about 20 C, i filled her up with premium fuel like i do once every while (94 Octane) last night and drove about 100 km on that tank. Thats about it...
Thanks Guys

Re: B16A Eg Stall followed by temporary no start
When it would not start, did the fuel pump prime?
Did you check for spark at the plugs?
Any CEL codes?
Stalls are often caused by a bad igniter unit inside the distributor. Have an auto parts store test it.
A bad coil is another potential cause. Resistance test it. See FAQs sticky.

It did prime
No as i had no tools
Nope
alright ill have it checked out
I guess ill focus on spark, coil and the distributer

Ok on my way home because i was quite close today... i managed to drive her back stalling about 3 times. In between the stalls the car jerked at 3000 rpm like it did earlier at 5000rpm but continued to run for about a min or 2 before stalling out again :S still have to do with the coil or igniter unit?

You have not taken any advice given in your thread. Until you start posting some troubleshooting results, there's not much else to discuss.

Re: B16A Eg Stall followed by temporary no start
Ok so coil is good, i replaced the cap and rotor, still have to take the ignitor unit ti be checked...
a note :
spark plugs are black --> maybe fuel injectors are pumping too much fuel causing it to not ignite??? (maybe thats why the rpms sputter)
Honda said it may be a problem with the ignition switch
I asked if it could be the crank sensor --> they said highly unlikely
Anyways this is just an update before i take the ignitor unit to a parts store
If you have anything else to add to my list please let me know
Thanks

ok i did everything but get the igniter unit checked... no one in canada checks those not even honda. So i guess a new dizzy it is, just out of curiosity i called honda for a quote... a new distributor from them is like 1, 080.00 literally laughed at the guy, found some after market ones at a jdm store picking it up tomorrow
