there's more than one b16 trans, and more than one b18 trans. it depends on what you want out of it. a b18a/b trans (ls) has pretty long gears. a b16 trans has closer gears, good for acceleration. similarly, a b18c5 (type r) trans has pretty close gears, but with the addition of a limited slip differential (its always possible to put a lsd in a trans with a factory open differential). b18c1 (gsr) is a pretty good overall trans, gears are a little longer.

i would say either a b16 or gsr trans. with the b16 trans you'll accelerate a little bit quicker. but with the gsr trans, it will pull harder from the top of 3rd on thru the top of 4th and into 5th than the b16 trans.
