It's because of only a few hundred more dollars, you get more torque.

http://hmotorsonline.com/ yeah i think the main reason ppl complain is because at low rpm, there isn't a ton of torque. With the B18, you'll get more torque but for more money. I think the best thing to do(in some cases) would be to save up a little more after you get the b16 for a turbo kit (or peiced together) and then you'll have more hp and tq. Are you thinking of buying one?

People bash on b16's because for the price you pay for a swap from a dealer you can get an ls motor and a gsr/b16 tranny and eat b16's for breakfast and still afford a set of work wheels.

At least that's my reasoning for not being a b16 enthusiast.

I don't mind the b16, just i see too many people having high hopes for it as an n/a motor. Or groveling before the b16 as a groundbreaking swap.

IMO i'm okay with the b16 if you get a good deal on it. But paying $2000+ for one is assanine to me when more working power can be made for less. I guess you're paying for the "vtak"

Allot of the 'hate' you see on this site about B16's comes from 16 year olds who dont drive yet, with massive ego's and all idealize the b18c's , or K20's, ect. The B16 isnt a terrible swap, in fact, IMO i think its a great swap for someone just getting into the game. Yes, it has less torque than the B18's, b20's what-have-you, but that doesnt mean its a bad engine, i still think its a good engine to start with. You can get some more punch out of them by building them up, with Cam's, Port and polishing, aftermarket intake manifolds, and best of all FORCED INDUCTION!
