b16 intermitent starting problem
Hey I have a 94 del slo vtec w/b16a3 motor. Recently the car has been acting funny. Very rarely the car won't start at all, it cranks, has spark/fuel, sounds fine - but it won't fire up.
Sometimes it will start normally, then immediately die. Like it will fire up, then stall out when the rpms drop a few seconds after starting.
Often it will start fine, run fine - perfectly normal until I turn it off, then it won't start again for a while (sometimes 30minutes or more) this is irritating me, because my honda used to be so reliable, but now it isn't.
Any ideas what this could be or what to check? The motor is in good shape, all stock except for a clutch/flywheel (it was funky before replacing these).
I want my car to fire with 100% certainty like it used to when I bought it. This problem has slowly been getting worse over the past few months. HELP!!
thanks for reading :D

Re: b16 intermitent starting problem
follow up.
seems the problem has gotten dramatically worse. now as soon as the car starts, it overheats. I mean really overheats, the temp needle is past the H for hot...
What's really weird, is the heater isn't hot. When it overheats you turn on the heater to help cool the engine - but not now. The heater is the same temp as the air outside the car.
Any ideas?

problem fixed. coolant was flushed, drained, and refilled. now the heater works and car doesn't overheat.

sounds to me like your describing a bad coil...starts fine when cold but doesnt want to start if its already at temp....also your in hawaii so does the car have problems starting on a hot day if you have had your windows up and its really hot inside the car?...that could be dry joints in the solder on your main relay(bad main relay) i would pull out the coil and ignition control module and have autozone or whatever test them for you first

Alright, I'll pull my coil, ignition control module - and have them tested down at the local shop. is it something I can do myself with a multimeter?
i will also examine my main relay - but I don't think it's this. if the main relay was bad, the car would never start. i think there's a small chance that it's half-bad, but i spose it's possible and i'll look into it. when turned to on, the pump runs and i can hear it. next time it won't start i'll listen for the pump.

Re: b16 intermitent starting problem
car doesn't overheat anymore, I didn't have enough coolant in it after changing clutch. I added coolant and car doesn't overheat anymore.
still doesn't always start though...
