The gsr has a better first gear...thats it. I dont know why people are using that tranny other than maybe they are idiots? (as in they are usin a gsr instead of a b16)

well, im kinda in the same boat as you, im doing an ls vtec, i did some reasearch and if i wanted close gear ratio then i would have bought a spoon lsd rebuilt CTR tranny, but i was told, ill have to much wheel spinn in my first few gears, so i was told to wo with a GSR tranny, and rebuild it with lsd

A better first gear? First gear is the only gear the two transmissions share. All other gear ratios are different. If you meant the actual gear itself, I'm not sure. I thought that other than the ratios, the only difference was the size of the diff.

gsr have longer gears which means more mpg around 70mph the rpm are at 2500 and compared to b16 tranny which are around 3500-4000, the main thing b16 short gear ration make it a good thing at the track but gsr tranny long gear are good for daily driven...
i know this because i have experince for both i traded my b16 tranny for a GSR tranny gas prices PWN me..
GSR>b16 in the street for MPG
B16>gsr at the track shorter gear faster time
you pick from that

I agree with him. You dont need fifth gear at the track anyways.

Re: (civic2slo)
i love my B16 tranny for street use but damn does it suck on the freeway. Sometimes i wanna just throw an LS tranny on there so i dont hit vtec at 90mph... for track heck yea the b16 is 1000 times better but i dunno.. sometimes i think its just.. too short, just my oppinion though

basically, without getting crazy technical here, gsr is better for boost, and b16 is better for all motor.
again, that's a very general statement. some people with lots of boost and really fast setups need a taller 4th gear so that they don't have to shift into 5th.
but mosto f the time, b16 is best for acceleration.

Re: (vtecspeed1320)
Well, my SYNCHROS had been shot out! 3rd, 5th and soon to be 4th are grinding. I want to know what's the CHEAPEST B series tranny i can get. I am not looking for short gear ratio or any of that racing stuff. Its for my EM1 a daily DRIVER!
:EDIT: Oh, how much would the cheapest B series tranny cost?
