b16 tranny or gsr tranny?
gsr motor with 10lbs. some say dont bother with swapping to a b16(sitting on my garage floor) i know the gears are shorter in the b16, but the final drive is gay. which one should i put the lsd in?
i thought about this. put gears 1-2-3 from the b16 in the gsr tranny and the lsd. yeah good idea?
and put the 1-2-3 gears from gsr into b16 trany and sell it or keep it when i go to 20lbs and blow trannys up?
this question is related to a turbo so thats why i ask here

im running b16 1-3 & gsr 4&5th just for the mph.. working pretty good, and doing 129 in the 1/4.. Just gotta be fast with the shifting. The gears come up quick.

either will work fine, the b16 will have less traction but will accelarate faster
i personally like a gsr for an all around daily driver/track car and the lsd is a must

Re: b16 tranny or gsr tranny?
are you trying to **** me off?? on street tires the b16 will be slower due to spinning through the gears with anythign over 300whp
on slicks/radials the b16 will be faster than a gsr with the same wheels/tires
what rpm you take the car to, the size of your tires as well as a couple other factors all come into play

No. I was simply pointing out that one must take into consideration that simply because something is geared shorter doesn't mean its going to make your car faster. More power to the ground = more traction issues. Plain and simple. Your statement about making your car faster, but increasing wheel spin just didn't make sense. I was just trying to clear it up. Relax.

Re: b16 tranny or gsr tranny?
In my experiences, wheelspin is going to happen on a 350+hp setup with either tranny. I think you shouldnt gear your car down due to wheelspin, but instead make adjustments and/or add parts to aid in traction so that you can benefit from shorter gearing. The shorter gearing will get you into boost faster, will have less RPM drop in shifts and make the car easier to accelerate around town in traffic. I would like to try a GSR trans in my car again but I know I would be pulling it back out for a B16.

10.10 with ITR tranny in my car. Don't bandaid the car by putting in a logger geared tranny. Get the power to the ground. If you are out of rpm or tire, then get the longer geared tranny.
For 90% of the people on here that wont bother doing that, keep the gsr tranny.

I would say stay with the gsr tranny since you have it. If it blows, just use the b16. I will be using the b17 gsr tranny in my boosted set up, so either one will work! Short gears FTW

Re: b16 tranny or gsr tranny?
When I finish building my ITR I hope to keep the factory trans. Looking to make 400 WHP at max. I'll say with 260 at the wheels SC'd 1st and 2nd gear was useless, 3rd and 4th had decent traction. I'm sure with the turbo it will be the other way around.
