you can have million dollar parts but if you dont know what you're doing it'll go to hell in a hand basket in a second. this is the road you're heading down.
i suggest you stop asking such open ended questions and do some real research. this is not research.

if anything varrying away from stock will make it more unreliable(not 100%) but if you're building it to rev to 10K(and do) it becomes more unreliable every day you go out and beat on it. Unless this is you'r "track car" but i seem to recal it's you'r DD

Over building is for real power...
There is no way a honda motor could "let go" being a dd seing the track occasionally.
Saying you have a lead food, basically means you like to try and show off driving around like a donkey.
So still wondering...why such vague questions?

I drive it hard. I've already threw a rod and broke a crank in a mildly built z6. But anyways I went from small block Chevy to these 4 cylinder hondas I'm just trying to build something that'll with stand my foot.

Here's a better alternative for you - learn how to drive the car correctly, set it up correctly, have it tuned correctly, and take care of it. Cranks don't just magically break, and rods don't just magically fly out of the block. Also, advanced driving courses are a lot cheaper than "overbuilt" parts.

A lot sturdier than a small block Chevy motor.

Op you can't really compare an sohc to dohc in hondas. Its apples to oranges. The sohc is known to have weaker rods(lower tensile steel) among other things than dohc vtec. The sohc is designed for economy and dohc vtec is designed more for "spirited" driving.

Re: b16 or b18
And on the small block chevy part being out lasted by hondas, Its all in the setup. I can build 400-500 hp chevys that outlast anything. I currently have 4 that have been ran on for about 6 years and no problems out of them. One is in a 69 camaro ss that has enough *** that the body twisted on launch the first time it was dumped at 5,000 rpm. It still has the marks to prove it. I only ask questions to learn more about these hondas. Building v8s is completely different from these 4 cylinders. V8 gets hot you just check your coolant and thermostat unless too hot then head gasket. 4 cylinder honda is all aluminum so it could be a lot worse. Dont get me wrong I know its all in how they are put together and tuned but what people do with these hondas, I can do with a v8.
As for me not nowing how to drive a car. I have my class a cdl. You cant get them with out knowing how to drive. Takes a lot more to drive a semi pulling a 53 foot trailer.
Like I said Im just trying to learn more about building these hondas and working on them. But if your going to criticize me for asking questions then Ill just quit asking and learn on my own.
To the ones that have gave me useful information, Thank you. You know who you are.

Anything can be built to last.
Instead of asking questions piecemeal perhaps check what has ALREADY BEEN DONE. For instance, the All Motor forum if you're thinking about staying naturally aspirated or Forced Induction for boosted applications. Plenty of strong reliable builds being/have been done there. These cars are pushing 20 years +. Nothing new to be done to them. No need to even post this kind of stuff anymore.
