b16 or b18

Which would be better for my 93 dx hatch? It is my daily but I will be racing it ocassionally. I want to stay NA, no boost. Would b16 or b18 be better? Wanting to keep decent mileage those.

Re: b16 or b18

I'm actually looking at the b18 myself for my CX hatch. Provides a lil more torque, but you won't maintain as great of a mileage with that over the b16.

Re: b16 or b18

Either way I'm wanting to do a mild build. Just no boost. I can get a 2nd gen b16a swap for $2250 but the b18 is closer to $3800.

how much HP you looking at wanting?

Omg how many times this thread comes up is ridiculous...

Imo, if you want mileage, get the b16. If you want power, get the b18c or c1. That "little" bit of extra torque goes a long way. No matter what anyone may tell you, the c1 is capable of the same revs as 1.6 w/proper valvetrain in it.

Re: b16 or b18

prices should be relatively negligiable between the two. for staying mostly stock and shooting for all motor, the B18C is probably the best choice. the higher displacement and longer stroke will give you more low end torque and more usuable horsepower in the real world.

if you can afford it, the Type R (B18C/B18C5) is the way to go. it has a better flowing head, more aggressive cams, and higher compression. also, the factory transmissions that accompanied these motors came with a stock LSD.

if money is tight, you should be able to get a GSR (B18C1) for close to the same price as a B16 swap. check out hmotorsonline.com

:agree: the b16 feels like a D down low. LSV is a way to go also or B20V(even more torque) but you'll need to do it right to be reliable

Re: b16 or b18

Fyi, b18c is not a type r. Its a jdm gsr. Same compression as US type r b18c5 though (10.6).

Op- keep in mind all of these b series vtec are premium unleaded only.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Type R head just a GS-R head with a mild factory polish? You could save money by just getting a GS-R and doing that yourself.

In essence except the intake manifold has a different bolt pattern and has a bit of a 3 angle valve job(i think)

B18B/B20B/Z with LSD B16 tranny(CTR/ITR)

You can find both of these long blocks under $700(+/-). You might be able to find a complete B18B swap for $600. I sold mine for $400 just for reference. Cheap and reliable is great for a DD even though it's non-VTEC.

If your budget is higher I would just outright buy a B18CR. Anyways, enough of my rant.

Re: b16 or b18

Check my fs threads don't know if its in your budget but I have a jdm itr long block for a good price. Only reason for selling it is I'm going back to boost and don't have heart enough to throw boost on a R

Didnt I correct you on this last week and you recognized you were wrong? And you are right back to spreading wrongful information....jdm gsr and jdm itr motors are both stamped "B18C"!!!!!

There you go again....maybe motor facts isnt your forte.
c6 is a ukdm and edm itr motor.....jdm motors dont end with numbers, only letters.
