Auto Trans Fluid Type?
Is there any particular reason that I have to use Honda "brand" trans fluid? Some say if you use any other than Honda it will cause hard shifts. I know on american's trans you have to use certain types but brand doesn't matter(in general). Its 50 miles to the closest Honda dealership, but the parts store sells the different types for imports. My old CRX had the castrol trans fluid and never have any hard shifts? I'm trying to get the most life out of my auto as possible before having to switch to 5-spd.

Basicly. From what I dug up, Honda has it own special blend.
Even when draining the fuild, most of it remains in it. To get all the crap out, you need to flush it. DO NOT have it power flushed.
Drain it for 1000 miles or something and drain, repeat 2-3 more times.
The only reason I used it becuase at the time it really was my only option. If I did it again, I would have went Honda.
I'd flush it, and refill with the cheap valvoline, and then on the final one fill with OEM.

Just use HONDA ATF. It's required. It says so in the owners manual. A 50 mile tow is more expensive than a 50 mile drive. If it hasnt been done in a while buy 9 quarts. Do a 3x3 drain and fill.

AFT-Z1 is discontinued, the new fluid is DW-1 and it's full synthetic, DW-1 can be used in anything, ATF-Z1 can be used in anything up to 2010 or 2011.
They don't have gears. Honda only used them in automatic HXs and insight/civic hybrids.
