Anyone Know a Good Place to Pick-Up a Good Used D16??
Hey guys:
As you may already be aware, I have a 2000 Civic HX that I picked-up for use as a gas-sipping commuter/daily driver. Unfortunately, the car has more issues than I originally thought it did. Upon further inspection, I discovered that one of the previous owners had swapped a DX head onto the Y5 block (wtf) and, curiously, installed an EX ECU in place of the OE HX ECU. As you might expect, the car runs like sh*t.
I'm thinking that the timing belt must have snapped and ruined the original HX head. Being an interference engine, my fear is that the pistons are likely damaged as well and would rather play it safe and not reuse the original block. As of now I'm in the process of tracking down an HX-specific ECU, but does anyone have any recommendations as to where I can acquire a quality used Y5? Are there any major differences between the Y5 used in the CVT HX and my 5-speed HX? I've searched locally and online but with depressingly small success lol.
Again, this car is only meant to be used as a reliable daily. Despite its flaws, I've really fallen in love with this poor little car. Cosmetically speaking, the car is in great condition and all the body panels, interior pieces and the like is ALL ORIGINAL -- which is what drew me to it in the first place. The SMART thing to do would probably be just to sell this car before losing any more money on it, but if I can track down a strong Y5 with good compression at the right price, I MIGHT just be crazy enough to drop it in.
Thanks!

Some other members have mentioned there is an "ecomodder" forum somewhere where people specialize in HX cars and their parts. I think that like the DX and EX, the block and head are identical whether the HX is manual or CVT.
If your engine isn't burning oil you could keep the bottom end and put a head on it.

Find another y5, inspect engine harness very carefully for any cut wires/plugs, find the correct ecu.
If failing to find a proper y5 than you might as well find a y8 and keep the ecu as is.
