Default Anyone have the Magnaflow Oval muffler?

Just got my 2.25" Magnaflow Oval installed with 2.25" cat-back piping. I noticed a good increase of power in the middle and upper rpm band, but the muffler is pretty raspy above 3.5-4K rpms, especially at WOT. Anyone else with this muffler notice this, or do I have a leak somewhere? I used to make fun of cars with raspy mufflers, now I have one

Did you have a resonator installed in your piping?

I have a 2.25" Magnaflow muffler and its not raspy AT ALL.

Nope, no resonator. Do you have one?

I'm running 2.5'' mandrel, straight pipe, magnaflow es style muffler...it gets raspy from 3.5-4K. Up to 8.2Krpm, it screams...but not really raspy for some reason.

I need to get some sound clips and post them up. Would an exhaust leak make it sound raspy?

If you don't have a resonator, you're going to get the "raspy" sound. Adding the res will tone it down a lot.

Sounds like Im getting a resonator! What length do you think will eliminate the raspiness without taking away too much of the nice deep throaty growl?

the growl won't go away with the resonator. it will only remove the raspiness. Get the longest one you can fit under your car. I think I have a 22" one... or was it 18" I dunno..

I have a 18" resonator and it is raspy as well, I suggest you use a 22" resonator.
