Anyone ever have this problem with timing belt?
ok, b16, today i was going to replace my timing belt and tensioner because it was making some noise, i work at a parts store and i get a good discount on parts so it was no thang. now i know i shouldnt have my top timing cover off but i do... after i had got the valve cover off i started inspecting my belt for deflection...not much at all and the belt looked really good, and upon further study i noticed that my belt was rubbing my timing cover due to the top part not being on to hold it back
the first pic you can see the shiny black where it was rubbing, not very good looks like a shadow
the second pic shows a top view
the third pic shows how i put some washers on the bolt to hold the plastic back
the forth shows how it is now without rubbing
no noise now, i just need to find my cover and put it back on tho
amazingly there was no damage to the belt

Re: Anyone ever have this problem with timing belt?
ive never had this problem before. i have a jdm b18c so it wouldnt be much different. since you have the parts change the timing belt anyway. and check when you take the belt off lay it on the floor and see if maybe its warped. maybe didnt have enough tension? or maybe hte tensioner pully is bent a tad like off true making the belt migrate towards the edges. goodluck man hope the best

I would say that since your TB moves and 'bounces' kinda while being whipped around 7000 times a minute then even though deflection is good it does have some free play in it and would slap against a few things from time to time.
If the belt looks good and not frayed then you should be fine.

I have seen that before. My thoery is that over time that plastic distorts due to engine heat. Not having the side cover on just adds to it. I've replaced the plastic before it not to expensive, you just have to take everything apart to do it ..

Everytime I do a timing belt replacement, I remove and discard the plastic covers. No problems at all afterwards.

HAHA yeah since I moved to H2B I haven't used a cover since. And before that I used to remove the one behind the Tbelt. Just checked it once in awhile to make sure no oil was leaking on the belt.
