Default anyone else running a b17 swap? what halfshaft? Cluncking

I am running a b17 swap. It runs.works fine, but there is this strange clunckin noise im trying to trouble shoot.

I thought it was the passenger axle but i jsut replaced it and although i thought it was fixed, i pulled ito my driveway and it clunked again.

My mechnic who installed it used a 98 gsr tranny, 98 gsr axles and the 93 gsr halfshaft?

I gave him a 98 halfshaft but he said it didint work, they also tried a 99 si halfshaft and it didnt work -they said.

So what the **** is this clunckin noise? it feels like wheel hop- without the hopping my only guesses are that its either the driver side axle or he used the wrong halfshaft and its related to that.

Can i get some insight? im pretty stumped right now.
Thanks
Dan

check your front torque mounts. Sometimes if they arent bolted into the frame, they will clunk upon deceleration. Jimfab makes good replacements if they are ripped.

I got that from an engine shot post a while ago. Youll see the tranny torque mount right under the intake....There are 3 bolts that go into the block, and then to see where they bolt into your frame (in the wheel well) youll have to pull off the wheel and check the bushing and bolts.

its the setup of 15 and 12 that youll be looking at... The A/C bracket is on the other side of the engine and could give you a similar problem.

is there a way to tell if its bad?

i know when i replaced my axle (<10min ago) and i was trying to pry it out, the whole tranny/engine was moving- and from where i was i could see the rightside torque mount and it was giving.

Also- when i was on the dyno i was watching my engine and it moved alot, both climbing ontot he dyno and on runs. On runs it would rotate toward the firewall (noticeably but not dramatically) and then kick forward on shifts.

Torque mounts?

**** from the sound of it all your mounts are gone. Your motor shouldnt be moving that much. All the mounts have a rubber piece to it. Look at all your mounts and see if the pieces are still attached to the walls. If there not then there bad. Also you could have the car up in the air and a friend inside, turn the car on and have him shift throught the gears, turn the wheel shift, go etc. and see where it moves the most.

ALL the mounts. Not just your torque mounts. You have 5 mounts total all over the motor. 1 is probably bad. All of them have the rubber. Your telling me all of the rubber inserts are good and your motor is moving back and forth? No thats not right. Check them.

all the mounts, including the torque mounts, still have the rubber attached to the sidewalls.

I couldnt really check the rear mount becuase the engine was hot and its way back there.

I cant move the engine by hand, like if i grab the dizzy or the valve cover and try to push it back and forht the whole car moves, not just the engine

Ok, then your motor was moving normal when it was on the dyno. That has nothing to do with the clunking. You are new with cars huh?

Another thing which would be really bad if this happens/happened but its worth a shot to try anyway. This happened to my customer. Take off one of the axles (pass would be easier) and stick your finger into the differential. Move your finger around and see if you feel anything loose or something that shouldnt belong. Are you getting any real wheel hop by any chance?

Round TWO

ok took the car out for a spin to try and nail down the problem. Pulled into a culdesac and went around it clockwise... felt weird but nothing

went around a lil fast CA CHUNK CA CLUNK.

it appears it have replaced the wrong axle....

went around it counter clockwise- no noise

so im going to get a new axle now for the driver side, my question is do i just pull the old axle out of the IM shaft and leave th IM shaft in the tranny or do i pull both, and then put both back in?
