Another J-Swap'd EK
Greetings all!
This is my first post on here that I've been putting off for too long. I just wanted to share this with the internets! My name is Stelvio and this is my brother's EK. Reason I'm posting is cause he doesn't care to lol
On to the car:
EPB 2000 Civic Si [canadian Si]
Car was originally bought from 1 previous owner and was essentially mint for 13 years.
Engine was an auto J32A2 which we mated to an '04 TL tranny and new OEM clutch. Engine came with the whole car and wire harness and ecu so was nice.
We had to go on a 700 mile roadtrip down to NC last October and suspension was being done the night before lol we had allseasons so we didn't care about the alignment too much at the time. Big thanks to Eric Lavigne @ R-Division here up in Canada for his input in this build. He was the only one that worked on this car apart from us [my brother and I]. Suspension that went on was Skunk 2 Pro-S 2's with Skunk2 LCA's.
Winter hit so project was put on hold so JDM D15 ftw! lol
Anyway, we used
Hasport mounts EKJ2 [rear bracket broke, still waiting on replacement]
We mounted at the highest setting but car was still very low to the ground
For axles we tried making them...by 'we' I mean Eric lol but after 3 minutes we all decided cheaping out on axles was not a good idea. So we got them from Driveshaft Shop. Big money but 1 year warranty and level 2.9.
Exhaust is a full 3" from downpipe to rear muffler from Vibrant [R-Division hookups from John Veloso owner of K-tuned]. Was for Prelude but some cutting/welding made it fit.
Derek Pawlowski from R-Division hooked me up with the fender roller to roll out the fenders a bit because there was some crazy rubbing on the rears.
We used a CL type S cluster we found, luckily it was manual too! So no PRNDL to worry about. Wiring was very very interesting lol
Here's a pic of some Honda goodness.
We used the '09 Acura TL SH AWD intake manifold because of its many benefits, like power, and being told the hood would clear with it, but mostly power.
The hood wouldn't close despite being told by the internets that it would with the EKJ2 mounts set on the highest setting and the TL SH AWD intake manifold...so we used lug nuts as temporary spacers to see if it would. It did. But looked bad.
Cutting the hood was the only option. Good part was that not a lot needed to be cut. This cut is temporary until we figure something more 'nice' to do with it.
For cooling we got a dual-core half-rad from James Houghton's ITR racecar and got the flanges moved to the other side to clear engine.
We drove it a bit without VTEC and a 5800rpm rev limiter because we didn't figure out the fix from the Auto-to-Manual we did but it still pulled real hard! Like, REALLY hard for no VTEC. Once we got VTEC to work we had a LOT of fun, for 20 min until the rear engine mount bracket broke lol It'd be nice to get this on the track this year before winter hits
If anyone has any legitimate questions about these swaps feel free to ask as the reason I'm posting is for the benefit of the J-swap community!
However, please avoid asking questions like price lists as if you're strapped for cash the last thing you should be doing is an engine swap. Or "I wanna do this what do I need?" as most of these have been answered all over the internets and if you don't know what you need you probably shouldn't attempt this swap.

Re: Another J-Swap'd EK :canuck:
I think it would look nice with a power bulge. Or it would be very silly with a scoop, but it'd be cool huh?
It can look quite tasteful if done at a professional grade

A scoop would be to subaru-ish I think. Perhaps we'll use the plastic covering and let that stick out a tad. Or get the IM and VC's powdercoated something interesting.

Re: Another J-Swap'd EK :canuck:
IV seen a few off the shelf manifolds that fit under the hood, and IV seen a few crafted as 1 off things.
a power bulge would probably be the cleanest looking and most cost effective thing you could do.
personally, I'd go find a scoop and make it look like a STi but that's simply my style. A power bulge on the other hand could actually look cool and clean..
alternatively, you could also be the proud part owner of one of the very few Hondas around with a Cowl Induction hood. Perhaps people would mistake it for a Chevrolet?
p.s. That car is sweet, id enjoy watching video of it racing around.

Re: Another J-Swap'd EK
Did you cut the webbing on the hood, maybe thats why it didn't close all the way. I'm pretty sure you're suppose to use the lower setting plus that manifold to close the hood. Where did you get that info from anyways?

Yeah we cut essentially all the webbing. From a bunch of sources scattered all over the internet. Oh well...

It's definitely agressive lol We're still waiting on the rear engine bracket to come in from Hasport and it's going away to get bodywork done today but hopefully we can get some videos up on the youtubes of hitting some VTAK

Video of Eric Lavigne's K20/24:
Video of J32A2 EK launch in 3rd gear
Video of J32A2 EK revving
There is def. a difference between L4's and V6's

Re: Another J-Swap'd EK
That difference is called low end torque, only the J has it. The same way IV been told "there's a right way to build a b16" there's a right way to build a J too. Stroked and supercharged, thats what the Americans do with their big engines. Why not do it with honda's biggest and best street engines? MDX crank & rods, Eaton M90 or whatever I forget. Anyway its cool and a huge waste of money. BUT, atleast a blower would be a great excuse to have a hole in the hood.
also, do you have a go-pro? I watched a v6 I think it was a CRZ race around and that was cool. It'd be cool to watch ya'l race too
