All motor upgrades?

All motor upgrades?
I have a 93 si with the d16zc. I've been debating whether to gradually keep adding bolt ons, or to just save for a turbo along with strengthening all of the internals and what not. I know that no matter how many bolt ons go on it'll get to a point where it'll need a turbo to get more power. Also that going turbo eventually will make half of the bolt ons pointless. My question is if I did go the all motor w/bolt on route, how much power could i expect to get, and what would need to be done in order to get that power?

If you get an intake, header and exhaust (common i/h/e mods) you'd be looking at maybe 15whp. Really nothing when you think about it. Add some cams and it'll bump up a bit more, but still not worth the time or money at all. I would enjoy the gas mileage now as you save up for turbo, assuming that's your ultimate goal. My buddy has an all motor itr setup putting down like 180whp, and that isn't even enough for him. Take that for what it's worth and good luck.

^^^^^ I agree.
Also if you are going turbo> don't bother building a Honda bottom end because in the end the block itself is and will be the weak point. Just get a good turbo setup and get it tuned by a pro.
Maybe a GSR motor would be a good starting point? I've seen 400hp+ out of those.

I say you start with a basic B platform. Get your hands on a B18B. You can enjoy the awesome torque and a bit more power until you have enough to grab a turbo. A GSR would be nice, sure, but they're pricier than the LS engine.
Yes, you could turbo the D and use it as a learning experience. But the D has limited potential. The B could turn into a monster over time!
My vote: Switch to B first.

Re: All motor upgrades?
alright so what im hearing is that if im going to turbo, i should swap the engine as well?
ive kinda been looking into an ls swap and then swapping heads to give it vtec. thing is, that'll be more money spent and i haven't even gotten the turbo. on the other hand ive also seen ls vtec's haul *** just on there own, and i was thinking that i'd be fine with that for a while til i could afford a turbo setup or what not. once again though ive also seen people getting ranges of 500+ hp from a d16..

Re: All motor upgrades?
depends on how much power you want to make, and what you want to do with the car...
imo...if you want to drag the car....ls turbo...pretty cheap and will get you a happy number, power wise.
if you just want more power and a fun car to drive...gsr with bolt ons...
you can boost the d series...build the head and what not....no since in building the block..it will blow anyways...and just keep replacing the block...lol.
