Default All motor 'stock' sohc in the 14's ?

Here's why the thread title:

I recently hit the track and managed to start off with consistent 15.7's. As the night progressed, I cut the figure down further and further, until I went 15.5, 15.4, 15.35. (Yes, it's 1/4 mile times...hahaha)

I just started to wonder how many people are in the high 14's (or better) with a sohc on stock internals, regardless of chassis, on street tires.

My setup, which is really nothing right now:

92 dx h/b
d16z6 (stock head/block, no milling, nothing)
CAI
stock dx header
2.5 catback
15" rims, badly bald tires (at the time)
That's it.

All motor is not my intended route... but hitting 14's w/o engine work would be fun for the time being.

X2 (lil help)

Aren't 15s around right though? I mean this guy basically has a lightweight 5G SI.

I was turning 15.6 in my 2269lb. full interior (minus spare) 1992 Civic Si back in the day when I wasn't the greatest driver, so in a light-*** CX/Vx or gutted Dx chassis you might could knock on 14's.

There was a local Cx with D16Z6 running 15.0 on motor. The Cx was stripped pretty good though.

Street tires at 850ft. above sea level.

9.8@71 is the best I've done so far in the 1/8. Thats something like a 15.2-15.4
It's very possible to cut a 14 on stock internals. Plenty of bolt-ons and driving skills. My mods at the time: Intake, cam gear(set for more torque then HP),pulley set from UR, and 3" exhaust. Little bit of weight reduction, no back seats, spare, tools, and CF hood. If i wasn't going to turbo my little D16 I'd for sure have a 14 second stock internal D16Z6.

it's possible, but a little milling can't hurt.

it shouldnt be all that hard, just get it milled or put a 50 or 75 shot on it.

If that was in a 1995 Civic Si then you're doing well, because those things are pretty damn heavy. The ABS ones can weigh up to and over 2450lbs.!

You might be able to break into the high 14's. I believe SingleCamScreamer on this board did it on a stock z6 with bolt-ons in a cx or dx hatch on street tires. The same guy also broke into the 12's with I believe a 60 or 75 shot of nos, using slicks of course.

shouldn't be too hard.. add a test pipe, better flowing header/exhaust manifold, throw in a ECU chip, possibly a cam, lighter smaller wheels (14" or even 13" with good tires) and you should be hitting high 14's without a problem.

ive seen my friends in the crx si run 15.0/15.1's with just bolt ons, so you should be able to get low 15's...my friends lil bro hit 15.7 in his hatch his was a cx with 1.6 vtec I/H/E and clutch..but also that was his first time ever to the track and he only got to run 1 time before it started to rain

uhh 75 shot of NOS isnt exactly the same as "all motor"...

SingleCamScreamer is local to me... I should ask him at the next meet... coo...

As far as the people recommending nitrous or milling of the head... I meant 14's all motor, stock internals, meaning no milling or nitrous.

I am 70% done with my turbo setup (former turbo junkie) so I don't intend to stay motor very long. Plus I just downed to 14"s, I guess my only other mods left would be a cam gear and a header.

For those that say low 15's in a hatch is easy... eh... Trust me, it's not... A local guy with the same engine/chassis can't break high 15's with his car completely gutted. It's alot due to driver, I know, but was just wondering if I was just dreaming or not.

X2 (14's, Imma getcha... )

I've seen a hatch run 14.5 with cam, cam gear, lightened flywheel, headers and a port and polish.. had a few other basic things done but it was quick

My old 92 Civic DX hatch with a 93 d16z6 swap ran a 15.3 at the Indy Import drags. That was with full a/c, street tires, full interior including spare and my stuff for the trip in the back, with only I/H. I'm sure stripped with some drag radials it could have hit 14's so it is very possible.

Yep, its a 95 Si, non-ABS .Its all about the driving, 2.20 60ft is somthing I'm proud of.It was probably close to 2300 w/ CF hood and some stuff removed.

94 Si, no spare or jack, mild port, intake, exhaust, and Nitto NT450's I ran a 15.5 at 88 mph in Spokane, WA(pretty high eleveation) with 2.3 60 foots....should have been a 15 flat with 2.0-2.1 60 foots though

I ran my 92 Si w/ an AEM once. 15.8?

Decided that was pretty slow and never went back until the DOHC appeared.

Props to SOHC guys though, just need weight on your side, or stop drag racing and start turning, don't need to dump so much cash on power stuff that way.
